guttin ac

I know its been mentioned before around here, but i need to know how to rip out my ac. It doesnt blow cold air, i never use it, and all its doin is robbin horsepower. The catch is that i dont wanna have to cut nethin to get it out, because i wanan save all the parts to put it back to stock if i need. Also i need some instructions/pics as to what to remove and how. I'd appreciate any help at all. Oh, and what kinda hp gains would i be lookin at?

I'd like to take mine out as well for a cleaner engine bay. I don't think the a/c actually robs you of any hp when it is off, however you will have less weight up front and gain a better weight ratio after you remove it.

only bad thing is your will have a gapping hole where the AC compressor used to be. I do. Plus i have a hole were the smog pump used to be. The bracket is useless but I have to have it for the tensioner. All I did was get a shorter belt and run it overtop of the tensioner. works fine and has been like that for awhile. Also have a large space were the A.I.R stuff was, evac canister, cruise control.....soon as i get a non ac airbox it will be even less crap under the hood.

Well for one, the A/C isnt robbing horsepower unless the system is turned on and the compressor is on. Other than that, it spins freely but the whoel thing adds weight and clutters the engine bay. Thats why i took mine out.

you can start off by undoing the metal lines that run from the airbox to the condenser. (the condenser is in front of the radiator).

When you loosen the pipes, the frio is gonna go all out into the air and the EPA will be very upset. They are gonna be a pain to loosen and some you might not get at all to be honest. Best bet is to use 2 wrenches.

Unbolt the 4 radiator bolts on the top, this includes the 4 bolts on the fan and tilt it back. The condeser will be able to come out. Theres 2 rubber pads that the radiator sits on, so be sure to put those back on.

then the silver canister can come out, and the tricky part that got me was i was trying to loosen the nut thats welded onto it .... duh.

where your at now is where you need to order the other parts. The pulley that replaces the compressor like vjo90RS8 said.

Then the non ac heater box which is hard to find. I dont know if iroczdave has anymore left. you can try him. IF you do get one, then all you do is remove the bolts holding it on, (some are inside the car too against the firewall) and put the new one on. A couple bolts wont line up anymore.

Thats all i can think of here at 2:30 in the morning. If your confused you can PM or e-mail me. hope that helps a bit.

Hey Vjo...where did you get that from? With the AC pulley delete my engine bay would look so much better. I had planned to get a non AC box outta my buddies 89 s-15 after he wrecked it but he junked it before i got a chance....It would be nice to have....would definetly made the header install easier...basically to remove the AC just start taking crap off thats what i did.

That non AC heater box really clears up some space. How do I go about getting one from IROCDAVE?

I need that...deadtrend i see you also got rid of the heater valve...what all did you need for that I thought about trying that. I know the one line goes from the water pump to the heater core..does the other line go from the heater core to the back of the intake?

deadtrend...you running a smog pump? if not does the belt clear everything with the AC pulley delete. what size belt?

how you like that STB?

I'd be glad to take your compressor off your hands for you. Mine sounds like a freight train when it's running. Interested in selling it?

umm, i cant remember off the top of my head what i needed, just need a couple feet of heater hose, 1 or 2 barb fittings, and your water pump needs to have the little cap on the top of it. Ill go look later on and tell you everything. And yes, TBI have the water fitting on the back of the manifold, unlike most other ones that have it in the front.

2) no smog pump. the belt clears everything. Just reroute the belt to go power steering, water pump, crank, a/c, alt and back to PS. The belt is like 3 inches longer i think.

The stb is great. NJspeeder always tells me to take it off when i race but i love the handling i get.

Oh man lol. This is ancient. I now realize how dumb I was (TBI305Camaro). So much has changed lol.

BTW I will have pictures tomorrow of a better way to route the belt. You don't need the delete pulleys. What I did actually completely removes the pass side bracket and makes your alternator adjustable. 50'' belt

Why is this in the TBI forum? Did it get moved or has it been resurected?

Mine doesn't have no a/c delete pulley, mine has just been unbolted off the car and lines removed, and went to a auto parts store and bought some smaller belts. lol

if you do take it off, i'd recomend revacuating all the R12/R134A (or whichever you have) out of the system before you do.
