Burnt Valve?????

Engine: 355 Tpi, LT1, 355
Transmission: Auto, Auto, 4sp
Burnt Valve?????
One of the guys I know is asking this. Was h oping someone in here with a little bit more know how on Engines can help lol.
I feel stupid for not knowing this and I should probably be able to guess, but what exactly does it mean if you have a "burned" valve?
This is what I wrote to him:
If I remember right its when there was to much heat in the Valve area (due to lack of oil or something like that) & it got to hot & Burnt. lol
Heck I dont know Be suprised if i was right.
Remember I dont really know it was just a guess.

Take it literally. It means a piece of the valve was burned off, so the cylinder is dead because you never get compression in it. Hopefully there is no oil touching that part of your exhaust valve.

i've saw them with just a notch or cut in them, like a torch or saw did it, to nearly a half missing , to just a small flat around the seat. compression test spots them pretty quick
