Silv-O-Lite H3437 pistons?

I was wondering if anybody has ever used these. I just ordered a set of these from Summit, but they're on backorder, so I still have time to cancel. They're 10.6:1 compression with a 58cc head (9.9:1 once I switch to a 64cc head) and they're hypereutectic. They seem to me to be a great deal, since this car's going to be primarilly a street motor. Definitely gotta be lightyears away from the stock pistons.

lot better than stock, lot stronger than forged, also a lot more brittle. they don't hold up well with power adders or detination. i've used them several times. read the install instructions and make sure you run the right end gap. if i recall you have to run stock end gap + 40%.

Why is it you have to run a larger end gap?

The hypereutectic pistons are made of a material that's a good insulator, so the top of the piston gets alot hotter than other materials, so the top ring especially expands more with the heat... a small amount of blowby there is no big deal, but if the ring expands enough that the ends butt, you get more or less instant destruction of ring, piston, & cylinder wall.

Yummy. Are there any rings that come pre-gapped? I've never gapped a ring before.

nope it ain't that easy, you got to fit the rings your self. spend the money and buy a ring filer and a squaring tool, or make one. i made my squaring tool out of a piece of nylon pipe.
