what ignition coil

I'm slowly upgrading the ignition of my '92 305. So far, Accel wires, cap and rotor. What is a good ignition coil for the stock ignition but can still be used when I go to an MSD type ignition. The stock coil is ok but is 125,000 miles old. Time for an upgrade!

If you want to save a few bucks, I would go with a remote Blaster 2 coil. You would how ever need a cap adaptor to replace the in-cap coil.
The HO in-cap are kind of pricey. I think an MSD in-cap runs 50+ bucks.
A blaster I think would set you back 25 bucks, & provides more voltage.

If I where you, I would save up and get the 6AL kit. It comes with a 6AL, Blaster 2 w/braket, Cap adaptor, & coil wire.

Yeah but I thought that cap-a-dapt thing was for non-computer control distributors.

Check out this part of my page, I did a complete MSD igintion upgrade. I have part numbers and pictures with instructions.

Proform makes an excellent and inexpensive in cap coil that puts out 50000 volts

I just ordered a Pertronix Flame Thrower coil and module, I'll let you know how they work out.

I got scared off from using MSD things....I read a few people's posts who were happy with their results and reliability of the units, but for I ran across lots and lots of people who were dis-satisified.

I went with Jacob's and would never try anything else.

They make a 120,000 volt coil too.

Good grief, you wouldn't want to stand next to that coil!

If I were you I would put that money towards something else. Unless you've done something to your cars engine to require a hotter spark your just wasting your money. If you've got a stock engine the stock coil is more than sufficiant enough. The engine is only going to use as much power as it needs so going with a better coil won't improve anything, it's still going to draw the same amount of power.

BTW: An aftermarket coil will not make a difference. You have to do the whole thing (and i am not talking about the MSD box, if ur car is basically stock to bolt ons) you do not need an MSD box. Get urself a nice cap/rotor, wires, new plugs (AC Delco) and coil and then u will notice a difference.

Thanks for the help? Did anybody read the question? I already have upgraded wires, cap rotor, exhaust,(headers next), intake, etc. As for MSD I've used them for many years drag racing and wouldn't think of using anything else. The 6al is a cool box but with an L03 the revlimiter seems like overkill. I used to drive a injected 327 dragster with a full MSD ignition. YES it was a front motor car. Shifted the 2 speed auto at 10,000 to 11,000 rpm w/o a rev limiter, never a problem. As for the cap adapter, mine has a remote coil and standard type cap. No adapter needed. I think I'll stick with my 1st thought and get the blaster. Don't mean to be a smart a** but many of the responses obviously didn't look at the question.
