steering box play
The car has been in the air for quite some time now as I am still waiting for my headers. I have isolated some slack in the front end to the steering box. I have been told that you can take some of the play out with the allen screw on the top. I've adjusted it in another 3/4 turn or so but still have a considerable amount off play.Should I bite the bullet and install the rebuild I bought or do they all have some delay from the input to output shafts?

With any recirculating ball gearbox, there should be no detectable lash between the input and output shafts. If you loosen the lock nut and adjust the lash screw, you should be able to take up and lash from wear of the ***** and gears.
Be very cautious about adjusting the lash screw. The shafts should be moving while the screw is adjusted and there should be no load (the front wheels should be off the ground). Make sure you check the lash along the entire operating range of the box, so take the steering wheel to a point near the lockup to check for overadjustment. If the box gets tight at any point, the lash screw is too tight and needs to be backed off to prevent gearbox damage.
