Blowing blue white smoke
My car has been sitting for the past 5 years and I finnaly pulled it out of mothballs.
When I start and run the engine I get steady blue white smoke. It gets worse when the engine is revved.
Is this valve seals or rings?
Just wondering so I know where to start when I get to this problem.
Just for info it's a 84 Z-28 with a 5.0 h.o. motor, carbbed.

Actually it hasn't been sitting totally idle.
I have started the car at least once a year. Not that great either I'm sure.
Last time I ran it was about a year ago.
Actually all I did was drop in a fresh battery, pump the gas till I heard fuel in the carb, turned the key and started it, after checking for anything in the aircleaner or carb.
I know the car was burning oil when I parked it. I'm just trying to get a handle on where to begin.
Nothing has been done to it that I know of.
I believe it's a strictly stock 305 h.o.
I've owned the car since 94 and haven't done anything to the motor.
I'm debating on doing a complete engine rebuild or not. It runs great just seems to leak and burn oil.
I planned on doing a commpresion test and what not probably tommorow or thursday.
Anything else you guys can come up with for me to check will be greatly appreciated.
This is the closest thing I have ever come to a restoration project so any help will be greatly appreciated.

hooking a vacuum gauge up will tell if the seals are bad. The gauge will rapidly pulsate around a few inHg above and below the vacuum reading. Also fully open the throttle untill the engine reaches around 2500 rpm and then snap is shut with the gauge connected. If teh vacuum doesnt immidiatly return but returns slowly, suspect bad rings, too. My old 305 had around 17 inHg wiht the rapid pulsation of the needle. My new engine, after i finally timed it corectly(ran for two weeks at 8 deg atdc), has a perfect 20 wiht no fluctuations.
