distributor mechanical vs. vacuum advance

does anyone know if there is a difference between a vaccuum advance and mechanical advance distributor? I was advised to change my original electric advance distributor over to a mechanical advance and a vaccuum advance. I was wondering which one I need in oreder to run an edelbrock carb, and also is there anything extra I need to do to hook it up or is it the same procedure????

If you're going with a NON CC carb, you need a vacuum advance distributor. The computer is now eliminated and you'll have to take care of the TC LU if you have an auto.

there is a big differance, one is mechanical and one is vacumn controled. if you eliminate the ecm controlled distributor and use a hei non ecm part it will have mechanical and vacumn advance both, my msd distributor doesn't have any vacumn.

if you are worried about mileage (which i doubt you are if you are switching over to non CC) then go with mechanical.
