Clicking Lifter??

What would a "clicking lifter" sounds like? I have some noise - sounds kinda like ping, but A LOT quieter - between 1000-1500 rpms, it almost always does - but I think it might have stopped for a little while after I changed my oil. it sounds kinda like a tapping, or knocking - metal on metal - but pretty quiet IMO. Anyone got any ideas. Been trying to figure this out since maybe Januaary, but I havent gotten anywhere....
Oh, it gets louder/intenser if I do a brake stand (like when you go 2 launch at the strip)...

You should check for some exhaust leaks. Even the gasket-less manifolds can leak (ie broken bolt). Does the sound intensify under load? A bad lifter will also make a similar tapping sound however.

yes - the sounds most certainly does intensify under load. So that would lend itself to an exhaust leak??? Also, is there anyway to tell if its a lifter w/o tearing the engine down? And when I said 1000-1500 rpm's I meant when i am driving - at the track, i only brake to about 1000 rpm's...
