my 91 Z28 wont start *sigh*
ok obviously my Z wont start =(. the last time i had it running....it ran on less than 8 cylinders and it had a horrible idle....kinda like it had a nasty cam. everytime i hit the gas the rpms would die for a sec then shoot up(like it should) then go back to the horrific cam idle(which sounded sooo nice!). about a week later i tried starting it....it started with the wacky idle then died. another week later i tried starting it and it just wouldnt start. im totally stumped guys. any input would be greatly appreciated. thanx

yes the car just keeps cranking over. someone mentioned that it may be the fuel filter. i will check that out. theres 1 more thing that i noticed over time. back when the car ran...it got a lil hard to start each time i started it.

Here is a number of things I would check if I were you :
1. Check your fuel pressure . Is your fuel pump crapped out ?
2. When's the last time you did a tune-up ? sparkplugs , plugwires , get one of those spark testers ( can't think of what they call it , its clear and the light comes on , test all your cylinders ( someone help me out with what you call this neato device lol ) Take all your plugs out and look at them , how do they look ?
3. Your fuel filter could be clogged
4. How good is your ignition coil ? any cracks in it ? What about your wire going from your coil to your distributor cap ? What about your cap and rotor ? ....your distributor cap could even be cracked . ( these things are crazy , sometimes you can have a hairline crack that you cant even see and the car may not start , or sometimes you will have a big visible crack and it will run like crap . Take your distributor cap off , check it out , look at your rotor , is it cracked ? You might even just want to go ahead and replace both of these b/c its cheap , if it hasnt been done in forever it needs it !
5. Check your vacumn hoses , have any torn ones ? I think there is one or two of those which can cause the car not to start .
I hope all this helps you man . Goodluck

waynesRS gave you good advice. I would also suggest checking you ignition molule. Take it to have it checked. My car is doing some of the same things. I am replacing mine this week end.
I will let you know if that took care of the problem
good luck.

Thankyou Bluegrass
Yeah , check that module . Id check everything ignition wise . It sounds like your ignition is real weak somewhere and its not giving a good spark . So therefore , your not burning alot of that fuel and its making you run real rich .
Re-read my post before this , and check everything out .
Also , with your ignition control module , when you check it , if the bottem is real rusty looking , its crapped out . If you check everything ignition wise and can't find anything , which is unlikely , but does happen ! You want to do some testing with a multimeter . Of course sometimes the bottem wont be rusted and it is crapped out .Thats where the multimeter comes handy .

another thing to check , I dont think I mentioned it in the above post . But , if the module is good , check your pick-up coil .Is it burned ? Or is it flaking off particles of paper like stuff ?
Keep us updated man !
