Camshaft damaged?
Just tore down a 87 TPI 350 and found a spun rod bearing and lots of piston skirt damage. Bottom end definately needs replacement.
When I pulled the cam (roller type), I didn't see anything obviously wrong with it.
How can I tell if a roller cam is worn out?
How do I check the roller lifters?
I did notice the wear pattern on the lobes is pretty much limited to the center of the lobe as opposed to the edges.
I have a pretty tight budget for this re-build and don't want to replace anything I don't need to.
Thx...

Put simply, replace it now or replace it now.
The cams today are so affordable, that it is not worth dealing or contemplating reusing after a bottom end burn out that you’ve described.
Not only will a NORMALLY worn camshaft decrease your power, but will also decrease your fuel efficiency.
BTW: That includes the cam, & lifters.

The lifters should be OK as long as there's no visible wear or failure. Check that the roller is tight on its pin and has no pitting.
I'd agree about the cam though; the factory's grinds are pitiful. With the amount of expense you're about to go through, the cam is a small thing to add even though it's the more expensive roller type, and will greatly improve the finished product. I would not recommend short-changing yourself by re-using it.
