427 Kit...

427 Kit...
I was wondering who makes them? The two who I have see is Calies, and World.
What is involved in getting one in between the mains of my 406? I would imagine the long arm would make the camshaft gallery would need clearance from the rod bolt. The Callies one comes with rebuilt 5.7 rods, could I get away with my stockers? Is there a decent piston selection with the custom pin locatation?
I really apreciate any replies...
Thanks,
Green

I don't think you can do it with a production block. You need something like a Motown or Bowtie block.

WIth Eagle H-beam rods or other similar cap-screw design ones, it's almost a bolt-in. A friend of mine and I built a 434 (4.155" bore, 4" stroke) not too long ago with an Eagle crank and those rods, we even used a normal base circle XR282HR cam.
There are a few pistons out there. Also, the custom people will make you anything you want. The motor I am describing above had 6" rods and Lunati & Taylor pistons.
I would not use any kind of stock rods for this application, "rebuilt" or otherwise. Any kind of bolt-and-nut rod is going to create clearance hassles.

Summit carries a kit....at least they used to.
It's expensive though! Sad thing is, I doubt that a small block 427 would perform as well as a big block 427...heads!

Hmmm... It would be expensive, but the cool factor would be off the charts. I could do a newer Yenko type of deal, and it would still perform and handle like a dream...
I need some names to price it... I am going to do some hunting.
