OK- we admit we havent actually done this yet. however, we're in hair-on-fire mode bashing on our '82 Camaro to meet the fast for-cheap goal. You online users will know before anyone if we made the cut or not
You online users will know before anyone if we made the cut or not WHAT DO THEY MEAN????

then again did they ever say it was for the 1/4, they might mean in the 1/8th.
Just like from the street racing board, about the guy in the Honda saying he couldn't see why he lost, cause he ran 12s at this track. And the guy who posted it, said the track is an 1/8 mile track.

We've all read those Hot Rod articles before where they happened to come across a 900hp Merlin block in a rust free camaro/mustang/chevelle... that just needed a new lifter or a head gasket for $1500.00, replacement parts and labor $300, entry to track $100, gas, food, whatever $100. I think all of us would like to have they're connections-hell we'd all be running 6's for $4000.

Sure you could run 11s for 2000$. Cheap project thirdgen, rip out everything (A/C, seats, spare, etc..) do all work yourself (porting heads, intake, and a BIG NITROUS shot. And a good set of drag radials. The question is how many passes before something (tranny, rear, engine) explodes. Also, dont forget, 11.99 is still 11s :>

Lol... I wouldn't be that suprised if they did it. They spent $100 bucks for a fibreglass hooded 82 Z28. They are lightening it, and sticking a 400 behind a TH-700, throw in some rear control arms, slicks. There only hurdle is fitting 500 hp under the stock hood.
There going to put another grand in handling mods... only one I have heard of is 'junk yard' eibach springs. Give me a break!!!

A few years back this same guy built a dodge dart for two grand to get into the 12s for $2000. He made it into the high twelves without nitrous. So if he sprays it with a good size shot then i'd say he'll make it. Even if it just makes 11.99 thats still pretty good.

Who can forget the chopped and stripped Chevette Hot Rod crammed a basically stock Caddy 500 they pulled from a junkyard into and ran 11s for under $2k. Of course, they always leave out the little stuff that adds up fast. Oil, gas, antifreeze, gaskets (sometimes they do count those), and so on.

Ok, so it can be done, but let's keep it realistic, getting a chevette and finding a Caddy motor, woohooo, who cares, so you can go fast, when they take a 3rd Gen or Stang and for $2k go 11s someone post it. That's when I would be interested.

couldnt you just do like a turbo setup (junkyard turbo, etc.)and just throw it on the engine and hope it doesnt blow?Maybe replace the pistons, that could be done a bit cheaper.

i may be wrong but a turbo is universal, just the piping has to be changed, which is what most of a "kit" would be.Oh and youd have to have custom headers which might take that out of the 2000 dollar range.

I watched hot rod tv today, the have completely stripped the car and are putting in a 400. the have n20 already in the car, the editor hopes to make the sept. issue with it

as already said, they showed the car on this weekends episode. it's stripped right now, they lightened it (drilled holes everywhere, cut out crash bars in the doors). They said 11's for $2000, not STREETABLE SHOWCAR 11's for $2000.
If I'm not mistaken, the 500 Cad Chevette ran an altitude corrected 11.96. I'd have to dig the magazine up. The driver was Steve Magnante (sp?). He's still with the magazine. He always wears those goofy glasses. He had to wear a fire suit because at the time when they track tested it, they hadn't put a trans tunnel in yet.
The camaro will be ghetto, but they should do it.

Hell, I think most of us could do it. But who wants to make their car look like **** and spend a few years of hard looking for good used parts? I got an s-10 for free because the people thought the motor was gone. Four years later, it is still running. I sold it to my brother in-law for a work truck. I was also given some 2.02 heads by someone who just wanted them out of their garage.
But get real, how often does that happen? 11's?? Good luck on $2000.

I don't think I get speedvision
Is that a premium cable channel or something? It's not even in my tv guide, let alone on my tv.
Why the hell doesn't tnn carry it? They've got all that other crap like the crank and crome fairies and ricepower tv.
oh well. I'll just have to read about it in September.
Thanks
