hello guys, my fuel guage only reads just a little over or under half full, when its full. this is kinda anoying because i cant really tell how much fuel i have in the car, is there anyway someone with limited car knowledge like me can fix it? it still works, and goes to empty, it just dosent move up past the half full mark.
Thanks

you need a new sending unit....mine did this, but during my fuel tank/rear end swap i put a new one in along with a new NAPA fuel pump for $54. OMG i hope i never have to do that again....well at least not for another 10 years or so. I don't even know how you guys can get the tank out with the rear still in there.....i was lucky that i could take out the rear so it was a stright shot down....even tho the tank does not do that...the old tank was wasy that way.....BEAT IT WITH YOUR FOOT WHILE LAYING ON YOUR BACK (it was empty and broken so it did not matter).... But putting the good one back in took me a while...i did not want to break the fillerneck to tank seal thing.

Well you can pull the needle off and readjust it. However, you'll find out for sure if the sending unit isn't working.
Fill up with fuel and then take the cover off of the instrument cluster. The needle will pop right off and then you just play with it until you get it right.

What was the part # of that sending unit??? I thought you could only buy 'em from GM for $300. My gas gauge acted flaky a few years ago, but thankfully, went back to normal.
I dropped my tank with the rear still on the car... mind you, the car was high enough in the air so I could sit under the back! I had the back of the car raised on on jackstands, which were sitting on 4" thick concrete blocks (had to work outside on this one).
