reduce oil burning
quick question on some ways to reduce the oil burning on my old LG4 untill i get a rebuild or something. now i notice it will start smoking more when the oil pressure increases.. now this happens when i start to give the car some gas and have some fun. i was thinking that maybe valve cover breathers would reduce some of the pressure in there and therefore reduce oil consumption..
would this work you think? cause right now i dont have any of those valve cover breathers on the car..
any other little ideas would be great, so i can save some embarrsement on the road..
thanks guys

Sorry I can't help you in the burning of the oil, but as far as looking Embarrassed on the road! Who gives a rats a$$ what anybody says about your ride!
Just my 2 cents.

its not a big deal if you have alittle blowby when you get on it. My car does the same thing. alot of cars blow stuff out the exhaust. If ur buring oil its most likley the valve seals. I dont' think pressure has anything to do with burning oil.

ya it's blue smoke, so i know she's oil, ya when i get on the gas she will puff it out, and ofcoarse on startups too and stuff.. i mean the car is an 82 so it's 20 years old.. i guess its pretty much normal for the age of the car. i just figured that with more oil pressure it would push the oil out through the piston rings more, or wherever else it's escaping. thanks for the replys guys, i'll just have to stick it out till i get that rebuild

Check that your breather and PCV valve is working correctly. If that doesn't help, then the rings are bad, or the cylinder walls are scratched and it's time for a rebuild. Smoke under acceleration indicates worn rings. Smoke on startup and deceleration indicate bad valve seals.
