AnyBody Had this Problem?
My speedometer is off. Its acurate to 40mph but then gradually gets more and more off as It goes.......55mph is 63mph on my speedometer. 65mph is more like 78mph on my speedo. So Im actually going slower than what the car thinks. So when Im at the race track my car shuts off at roughly 95 to 100 mph...........An obvious pain in the ***. Now I had 373s put in so I know thats why but I dont know exactly what to get and how much it will cost. Also my speedo makes this awful clicking noise when I go.

sounds like your speedo cable needs replacing. from what i've heard it's not that difficult.

What's the height of your tires?? If they're different from stock size, that will mess with your speedo. Also this affects your odometer.
Just read you installed 3:73s, that's your problem right there, you need to get the correct speedo gears. Go to a GM dealer they should be able to hook you up. I hear only about $15 or so.

your speedo cable probably needs lubricating to fix the clicking noise. to fix the speedo your best bet is to get an adapter that fits between the cable and the transmission. the T-5 driven gear can only be replaced by removing the transmission and removing the tailhousing. the adapters are available through speedometer and driveline shops usually.

225/60/15 I believe................. So they are a little bigger... Hell I aint worried about the odomoter.... 206,000 miles........It dont matter anymore.

Will any lubricant work? And this adapter you speak of is it something that makes it an easier fix or do I still have to take out the transmission and all that good stuff?

Also does anybody know what number to look for on my heads. Im praying they aren't stock lo3's but nobody has been able to answer that question yet.

we always used GM Lubriplate to lube the cable. You take the cable loose from the back of the cluster and you can slide the inner cable out of the sleeve. there are many types of grease that would work. Probably the easiest to find would be the grease used to lubricate the same type of cable on Dremel tools. the adapter screws onto the transmission speedo adapter just like the cable and then the cable screws onto it. Lots of vehicles come with these from the factory. It is a device that uses gears to change the cable speed to correct for stuff like tire sizes and such. If you have a 4x4 shop in town they can probably hook you up since the big mudders require these.
