Engine mods to go 11.00 NA?
Can someone describe what changes must be made to an L98 to run 11.00 normally aspirated. A cost break down would be especially helpful. I must decide whether to modify my L98 (would prefer to stay true to 3rd gen. roots) or swap in the LS1 sitting in my garage.
I know that purchasing an LS1 specific tranny, computer / harness, and accessories would be necessary. I also believe custom motor and transmission mounts must be fabricated. All these costs would be avoided building up my L98.

I hear making an L98 run that fast may be near impossible NA with the TPI setup, but I could be wrong.
For starters you'll need
Exhaust= $700
Cam $200 for a roller one (need all the power you can get)
aluminum roller rockers = $100???
Aluminum heads= $1000 or so (which aluminum's not the best
idea for daily driving)
TC=$400
Gears= $300
then the TPI needs to be modded heavily, not sure how much??
Suspension= figure in another couple $$, but either motor will
need that..
The block would probably need some new internals $1000???
Lighten the car the most you can:
aluminum radiator =$120
aluminum water pump =$100
fiberglass hood= $300-500
Not sure how accurate this is, but as you can see it's going to take a lot, I hear that TPI isn't the best for this kind of power, maybe someone else can be of more help.

I seen a guy at a car show once that had an 88 350 TPI heavily modified and he claimed a fastest time of 11.3
He had one hell of a ram air set up on it though. He took the front grill out where the fog lamps go, and made a scoup that fed from that entire area through a huge filter about as big as 3 or 4 of the regular square ones, then a custom cover where it fed into the tpi. The list of other mods this guy did was super long, about half of it was custom, handmade. oh yeah, he had the rear end of the car sitting up pretty high to clear some monster slicks.
If I can find my old pictures from that show I will post them, it looked pretty slick.

IMHO, if you want it to look stock... keep the hood closed. ![Big Grin](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Why aren't aluminum heads a good idea for daily driving, Mark? I've never heard that before, just wondering the idea behind it.
