Why does Comp Cams say I can't use a 1.25 spring with the 284 Extreme Cam?
Even though several company's make 1.25 valve springs that are good to the lift the 284 cam has (.507/.510). For example, the Crane 99846-16 spring is good to .540 lift and crane recommends this spring with several of there cams that have up to .525 lift. I don't want to machine the spring seat for larger springs because I'm sick and tired of waiting for my heads back from the machine shop, and I need my car project to be done NOW!
School is going to start real soon (summer session) and I won't have time to dick around with stuff like this. Here's the specs on the cam:
.507/.510 lift
240/246 duration @.050
284/296 advertised
110 LSA
What 1.25 spring should I use with this cam? Would the 99846 work Okay? Is anybody here running this cam?

If Comp told me to do something a certain way, I wouldn't do it any other way.

there are very few 1.25 springs designed to go .5+ lift
they really don't last long when you talk that much lift and rpm.

has a spring that will go .6
But, i would really consider 1.44"
