Vortec Heads? How much?

How much do new Vortec heads run? I have narrowed it down to either S/R torquers or Vortecs. I know S/Rs flow better for a 305, but I am thinking more of price. I don't think the Vortecs come assembled like the S/Rs do. The new Vortecs are $575, but the assembled S/Rs are like what?... about $750?

I am just trying to decide which would be better? I guess they are about the same price either way. I might as well go with the S/R 305 Torquers. But, if anyone has any info on this for me, could you let me know? Thanks

got my used vortecs on ebay for 350 shipped (arrive tomorrow), and they came with rockers. they have gaskets on ebay for 20, and head bolts are about 75 dollars for chrome arps.

Jegs sells them assembled for 245 ea. and I've seen them elsewhere(can't remember where) for 450/assembled set. So I wouldn't buy them for 575 unless they are modified, you can do much better then that.

used and looking good. rockers are rusted but hey, thats fixable. all i need are gaskets now. and an intake and some headers, and i will have my engine done.

if i were you, i would buy online or find some used ones that arent too bad... if you can do a valvejob on em yourself, thats even better. if not, i guess you may want to weigh your options of buying new or used. for me used was the way to go.

Sorry Tom, but which heads are you saying that Jegs sells for $450 for the pair assembled? I was looking through the catalog and I can't find anything like that. Maybe they came out with a new one though. I'll check their site. But it seems like if I can get them for that price in either Vortec, or 305 S/R Torquers, then that is the way to go.

Well www.sdpc2000.com has them for 238.75 each and Jegs has them for 244.99 each which are # 809-12558060. I did see some on ebay a couple days ago that were complete and brand new out of the box that were going for 175 for the set at the time. I don't know what the bid is now but I would definately check them out.
