400 hp 383 tbi

i went to order my slp posi at dyno-flo here in vegas(dyno-flo.com) and noticed a couple 3rd gens in the front. so i asked the guy that works there about them and he told me on one of them, a lo3, they were going to swap in a 400hp 383. he said the only adjustments that needed to be made was 350 injectors and a fuel pressure adjustment. He said he'd sell me the engine for 3500 and put it in for 750. doesnt seem like a shabby deal but im going to wait for the other guy to put in his so i can see how it runs and if its even legal!!

anyways what do you guys think about the swap and if its a good deal or not? what do you think a 400hp 383 would run in the 1/4?

are they gonna tune a chip for ya too?
jsut a motor is fine, that isn't too bad a price far that kind of power. and for install, if youaren't gonan do it yerself that isn't too bad a price. but the chip is very important.

No doubt!

No doubt NJ! Yeah my car runs pretty decent with the stock chip, but could run better.
Jon has talked to me and we're gonna try the Caprice chip with the car. That should make quite a difference.
I can't wait!

i asked him about a custom prom and he said as long as the fuel pressure is adjusted it should be all right but i think i might go with a custom chip anyway. even though 3500 is a pretty good deal i still might go with a cheaper one from autozone because 3500 will take me a couple months to save up.

Stock chip

Yes the stock chip should work fine, and be sure you have the fuel pressure right. That is a tough obsticle to overcome. My TBI was running too rich, and the fuel pressure was the big problem. I was bogging big time.
Once I had the pressure right, it still runs a tad rich, but at least I'm not running lean. It's close now.
I'm wondering what kind of cam that 383 has in it! It better not be too steep! My Blue Racer / Wolverine cam was too much!

I didnt really get into details about the engine so i dont know. what i do know though is that im waiting until they install the 383 in the other guys car first that way i can figure out if it [passes smog, how it runs, hood clearance, etc. im going down there friday to pick up my posi so ill ask him then, the guy that runs it is a very nice guy and they look like they do quality work.

Scratching Head

Yeah it puzzles me too Pablo. Maybe they have something going on that nobody here knows about?
Unless that cam is something computer friendly, I don't see how it's going to work.

Yeah, let's just say that somehow they hook up a vacuum AFPR and get the fuel curve to look about right. Now what the heck are they doing with the timing?!?!?! Do they expect to play with the base timing or are they going to intall a mechanical dissy?

Thats the same reason im waiting for them to install the engine on this other guys car first. matter of fact im probably just going to go with the 330hp 350ho engine from gm. 2200 aint to shabby a price and i have more options and leeway with different parts i want for the engine. but i might have them install the engine though.

I've been thinking of doing a 383 swap ever since seeing the Hotrod Magazine build up of the GMPP HT383 crate motor a few months ago. They got 463hp and 502ft/lbs from it! They used a 750cfm carb, but I figure the 670cfm Holley TBI might give similar performance.
