General knowledge question here

305 TBI 91' RS....What are the normal readings as far as the gauges go????

Oil pressure....RPM's.......Voltage......Temp....

the numbers in drive of course.....I'm doing a tune-up and I'm just wondering what readings I should be looking for...I just replaced my oil pressure sending unit and it reads like 20 psi in gear after warming up and the RPM's are like around 680-700 at idle in gear. Are these too low???? It does need this tune up by the way....I have that rotten egg smell.

Oh yeah, does anybody know how good that Red Line Fuel System cleaner works????

that seems pretty good, but I can tell you the rotten egg smell won't go away. that's telling you that you need a new cat.

the tps voltage just has to be below 1.25 volts so no codes are set... go to different sources and they will till you different things as far as TPS settings go. But I reccomend the lower setting the better that still gets you beyond 4 volts at wot. I typically set mine around 770mv. Since you are all about tuning it up id also suggest squirting some carb cleaner in the IAC passage and letting it sit for a few minutes with the car off and then starting it and then doing it again with the car on just to knock off whatever the cleaner loosened. You might also want to reset minimum idle just to be sure although with only 68k miles your car is probably fine. It does sound like your idle speed might be a little high, be sure youve got no vacuum leaks. The TBI base gasket likes to go sometimes and of course you always have the crappy vacuum hoses to contend with.

btw, Ooorah Gunny! Fellow devil dog here stationed at camp pendleton, Lcpl here, senior man on the totem pole when it comes to cleaning the ****ters!

love the quotes

RPM's too high??? ....700 RPMs in gear at idle seems a little low to me. And the oil pressure seems good to yall??

As far as vacuum leaks go, I do have this hissing noise coming from the center dash area when the heater is on; and when I checked to see if the A/C works, it was pulsating pretty bad. The A/C I mean, not the engine. That would indicate I need freon right?

the hiss when you first start eh car is teh IAC, that is supposed to be that way. liek pablo said, take some gumout and spray it out.
your idle shoudl be in the 550-650 range after the tune up, that is where i believe the stock chip is set. the tune up shoudl smooth it out and lower the idle a bit.
your oil pressure will depend a bit on what weight oil you run 10w will prolly be close to 30 at idle, 5w willprolly be 22-25, and the 0w i like to run will go down to 18 at idle(what can i say, i'm a racer)
the rotten egg smell is the cat, kiss it goodbye. actually, hollow it out, make cool exhasut noises and pick up some hp hehe

later

hes lucky, my oil pressure guage is all kinds of F'ed up, so I clueless on what its reading. I have my idle a little high for the reason's of my underdrive pulleys causeing a drain on my alternator with my stereo cranked. When its warm outside the idle drops, is that common?

Don't you just hate when you go to look at something on your car and you find a whole new problem that's worst than the first one???

everybody together now

I went to check out something and sure s**t I found a wonderful new problem to use my $$ and time on:rockon: I have an intake manifold gasket leak. It looks like someone took a **** on my driveway. From what I read in another post, this could also be a reason for my oil psi to be low. What crap....just when I thought I was done
