Got my chip from FastChip...can't use Edelbrock cam
Put the Stage 1 chip in my '93 5.7 Chevy truck - runs much better. While talking with FastChip, I asked them about compatibility with aftermarket cams. Was told to stay away from the Edelbrock cams - too radical, and to go with the smallest Crane CompuCam. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for the info, SC.

I think they're full of crap. The edelbrock cam (I think its #3702)isnt much better than the stock cam. I had the edelbrock cam and it went flat so I replaced it with the Crane 2020 and its been running great ever since. What does the stage 1 chip do besides advance the timing a little?

Go to www.fastchip.com and see for yourself.
I got the FastChip recommendation from members of this board.
I was told the Stage 2 chip only offered another 2 hp for my application, so might as well just get Stage 1. I already run the 160 thermo and 93 octane.
I told them I got their name from the ThirdGen site, and was wondering if I would have any probs later with an Edelbrock cam install. They told me to stay away from the Edelbrock cam - many people with that cam and FC's chip were having problems, but when they went to the smaller Crane cam, no probs.
I have noticed a definite seat-of-the-pants improvement in part-throttle apps and shiftpoints.

You should really wait for a chip, but if you want one, only go the way of the custom tuned one; Jon will attest to this. You'll work wonders with it, and get the most out of that thing.

"Off the shelf" chips are a joke. Ask anyone on the DIY PROM page and they will probably tell you the same thing. You pay $150 for 4* more timing in all the wrong places and way too much fuel.
Get a copy of WinBin and compare a stock chip to an aftermarket chip. There are hardly any differences.

The 3702 Edelbrock at 194/214 is VERY and EO legal in 350TBI engines... I have used it and it was TOO mellow but worked quite well in a 350 for truck/grunt use.
Their PERFORMER 204/214 cam is a step up but at the same 112 lobe sep with only .420"/.442" lift, it isn't that bad at all, either, even for a 305.
Now, their RPM cam is waaaay to big to easily program around, and is the probable cam the fellow had in mind when he got scared of Eelbrock cams, which is unfair.
