1996-1998 GM trucks. The L31s (64cc or 61cc) will have a heart looking chamber. The L30s(58cc) have a D shaped chamber if I remember right.

It's called the kidney shape and Taz, the L30 have 64cc chambers. The L30's also have smaller intake valves.

According to Jeff@SDPC:
"There are L30 vortec 305 heads. They are part number 12529180. They do not flow as well as the 350 heads, but they do have the 58 cc chambers. They cost $754.66 a pair. The 350 vortec heads flow better cost less and can be milled to get the compression needed."

I think that's a typo, but it is a different part number than Jeff said. I emailed them to clarify. Maybe there's more than 1 type of L30 heads.

Dude, do a search online for vortec and the part number he gave you. Use google. It'll turn up no results. Then go ahead and type in the part numbers I gave you, they seem to be all over the web. I think that part number he gave you is crap. Unless it's THEIR part number for an assembled head with special work done to it.

Tas mentions L31 heads in either 61cc or 64cc???

OK Tas, what do you know about this ... I have only learned of one part number for the L31 heads. Are there different casting numbers out there for L31 heads? If there are different castings being sold under the same part number it would help if you would give out the 61cc casting number.

No such thing as a 61cc vortec head. You take a 64cc vortec casting head and mill it to get 61, 60, 59, heck, go all out and port match your intake manifold when you do a 54cc mill.

I only said 61cc vortec head in addtion to the marketed 64cc version because Kevin L. brought it up. Maybe he checked, I dunno.

Re: where to find vortec heads

I need a few more cc's out of my 64 cc heads. can I polish out the location blocks near the sparkplug hole and would a polish of the chamber be ok?
