350(TBI) swap to 454(TBI)TRUCK

wuts up everybody. i have a 89,350(TBI) camaro. im runnin the stock throttle body unit and injectors. i want to goto pick a part and get the throttle body from a chevy truck with a 454 same bolt down pattern and butterflys except the injectors are bigger. i would like to know if i have to get the throttle body,or the hole ecu setup.

i have heard great things about this swap except a new fuel pump needs to go in. reply me back on what you think of it and if you have any knowlege of this concern of mine! thanx

The throttle bores are 2", so you will have to bore out the intake manifold to make it work. The 454 injectors are 85pph, and yours are 55. All you have to do is make some firmware adjustments and your set. It really wakes up the top end and you only lose a little on the bottom end, but you should be making enough torque for that not to be a problem.

I have a 350 TBI which originally had the stock TB unit with 68# cop injectors. It ran very well to 5,000 RPM but after that it was over. I went to the 454 base and bored the manifold to 2" and picked up 1,000 to 1500 rpm on the top end. This was using the same cop chip and injectors. No other modifications. However, I don't think it is a good comparason cause the stock TB was never maximized out with a custom chip. My gut is that with the right cam and manifold and heads over 5,000 rpm the 454 TB will help.
But with a mild cam and heads and a TBi manifold I don't think it is worth it. I am still thinking about swapping manifolds to a carb style to see if it helps at upper RPM. Right now this thing is a monster from 0 to 5,000 and keeps pulling up to 6,000 but peaks around 5200. We shall see. Good luck............bob
