go to your friendly neighborhood sdalvage yard and look for an a/c delete heater box. trust me, you'll know it when ya see it. the front is pretty much flat with no opening for the big a/c lines to pass through. usually you can pick up the box and the a/c delete contorls ouyt of the dash for about $30.

later

Killer, you're talking about the HEATER CONTROL VALVE. Someone here on the board did a by-pass of that (I think it was JP).

Yeah, that was me. I have a tech article on my webpage.
It's easy and now the heat comes on right away. That vacuum line going to the switch only lets coolant rush into the heater core if you have heater, vent, or defrost selected on the climate controls. Personally I leave my climate controls in the off position when turning on my car, then I turn the heat on when the car has warmed up.

You guys are lazy. It's only 3 clicks to get to that page if you go to my website (in my profile).
My friend just took some pictures a few days ago of the engine bay and I should have those pictures soon.

glad someone did this because i already got rid of the air pump box of crap thing right beside it...with that heater hose outta the way and the AC gone putting on headers should be a piece of cake on that side...engine is starting to look primitive to with the open element, no AC, and with the heads itll look nice...dont know how many people have asked if i carbed that car after seeing the open element...probably been asked that at least 20 times already
