My 305 Vortec head swap, need help making sure I get it right

My 305 Vortec head swap, need help making sure I get it right

I've got a 92 rs 305 with blown head gaskets. I'm going to swap the heads over to Vortecs. Here's my part list and prices along with some questions before I make the wrong purchases, I may be forgetting or not including small things. I am removing all the air management on the car also.


(2) Reman'd 520/059 castings $450 done
Flowtech ceramic headers and Y pipe 161021 $527
Percy's aluminum exhaust manifold gaskets 66122 $38
GM head gasket set 14096405 $79 for pair
Head bolts and intake manifold bolts local sourced $60
Mr. Gasket locking exhaust manifold bolts 2230g $31set
Professional Products dual plane carb intake manifold 52007 $140
Trans-Dapt throttle body adapter trd 2211 $43
5 layer intake manifold gasket set-local sourced $30
Air pump delete kit GM 10129569 $48
Custom Chips tuner chip to eliminate EGR and Smog Pump $65


Is this a good combination of parts for the job? I hear this combination, or one like it should get me about 60 more horse power-true?


Also what torque and valve lash specs do I use, the one in the Haynes manual for the car?

"Locking" exhaust manifold bolts are a complete waste of money and enthusiasm. The problem is that the gasket compresses, not that the bolts loosen.

"Professional Products" is cheap Chinese crap. Lots of profit for the suppliers, little value for you.

The AIR and EGR delete is another waste of time, money, effort, and enthusiasm. You're gaining nothing.

In addition, I'd be looking at bolt lengths compared to the new heads and manifold, it wouldn't surprise me that you could save another $60 by reusing the existing hardware.

If the bolts aren't the same size I'll reuse the old ones, however I hate doing that. The chip I'm getting is doing more than those things I mentioned, that's just two of the things it's doing.

Flotecs are the worst headers for our cars I would stay away. The PP intake manifold is fine lots of people run them instead of paying 10X the manufacturing costs that edelbrock charges.

For header bolts I like using the 1" long bolts with smaller heads. usually require one re torque but are easy to get a wrench on

I haven't bought them yet. Which ones do you recommend that work with a factors exhaust?
