ooowwww my head hurts here in texas
Hello everyone
brand new member here. I am so overwhelmed with all of this tuning.
I am located in HOUSTON ( close to Katy ). I am in the process of working on my truck and I am hoping that I will get some help. This 7747...7427 etc is overwhelming to my poor little brain. Lol
I am a Disabled Army Vet that suffers from PTSD and TBI. It seems that all of this I probably would have understood years ago but now not sp much.
Btw I have been lurking for awhile and I have noticed that you guys actually help instead of flame someone. Kudos to you all.

Well you may have to be a bit more specific on what is overwhelming you. GM made different computers for different applications. 7747 was used in trucks and is a relatively decent ecm to start tuning. there is alot of support and knowledge out there about it. inside this computer they put in different little programs called masks. some masks can be used on only one specific ecm (like a $59 mask is used on a 7730) and some masks can be used in a few different ecms. there is a very complete library of this information over at gearhead-efi.com..... http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...ams-Tuner-Info!
I hope this is a start for you. read read read and search search search.

Re: ooowwww my head hurts here in texas
I read and read
1st i read I should use my ecm 7747
then i read that the 7427 is better
And i read that i should do the maf upgrade
What i am trying to build and tune is a 383 vortec with tbi. I have a nv3500 as my tranny
What i want is a nice torque curve and good mileage. I will be going on the road with a travel trailer and reliability is of most importance .

Re: ooowwww my head hurts here in texas
ive switched over 2 7747's to 7427. actually one was an 8625 but they are close to the same. there is a definite gain in drivability. i noticed everything ran smoother and mileage did go up slightly. changing the pins over isnt difficult, just time consuming. label everything and go slow then check your work kind of thing. if you have the time and resources id go this route.
This being said the 7747 was still a good ecm. easy to tune, ran well, much better than stock after tuning as well. both will be able to run your setup.
Ive never touched on the MAF stuff so i cant help you there. ive gotten along fine without it but ignorance may be bliss.

I appreciate the info, mccl. The swap seems the way to go. Did you ebl or go through moates? Yes I know bith have their strengths but, which one is easier on a noob?

If you can get the wiring right (the hardest part in my opinion) the tuning will be the same for either. maybe even quicker results with the 7427. I went through moates, burn2, adapter, and a few chips. Got an aldl cable through aldlcables.com or something and tunerpro v5.
