Want to remove smog hoses and systems frome My RS. How to?
Hay guys.
I want to clean up my engine bay a little and remove all the smog crud to free up some room (hoses, wires, etc...).
I want it to look a little less like this:
And a little more like this:
Not necessarily with all the crome haha. I'm a bit of a novice as far as newer engines go, so the more detailed info the better. I just need to know what to, and how to remove all the unnecissary equipment from my engine. Thanks guys!
P.S. The engine is a 5.0 Liter LO3 Throttle Body Injection V8 as pictured above (no, that's someone else's Twin Turbo 427, mine is above that ).

Thats the Nelson Racing Engines twin turbo 92 Camaro.... I DROOOOOOL over that car. Gorgeous.
Removing the smog equipment is illegal and you will fail emissions testing. It's also a violation of federal law. Are you sure you want to continue on your course?
My 305 had all that junk removed when I got it, and it didnt really look that much cleaner.
Bypassing the heater core entirely will greatly clean up the hoses and ditching the A/C will clean up hoses. You want to give up heat and air for the sake of a cleaner looking engine bay?
You can also ditch the windshield washer fluid and charcoal canister.
This is what my car looks like now with all of that removed, still not really that clean:
I could probably clean it up a little at the wiring harness in the back, but if I didnt have it all hot rodded out I'd rather have heat, AC, and windshield wiper fluid etc. Well... I dont really miss the wiper fluid. I never used it.
There is a lot of convenience that comes with owning a mostly stock car. I didnt realize it before I started on mine but I do miss it a lot. I dont regret what I've done, but I just wish I had a daily driver camaro that was mostly stock, and then another one all gutted and stripped out for racing.

Not only all that, but you'll fail the visual portion the Inspection before they even get to the testing portion. Which means even if you are in a non-emissions testing county, like me, you'd still fail Inspection.

Well I know a guy. Violating federal law sounds scary. It does look ALLOT cleaner than before with all of the heater and A/C stuff gone, But I do have to say, Living in Texas and all, air con is a bit of a must. Thanks for the info.

The smog delete pulley is still available from GM at a dealership, i know you can buy them online as well, you have to provide a VIN# if you go through the dealer as the delete pulley is an export part only.

If you want to remove the emissions on YOUR car go ahead, after all it is YOUR car. I removed emissions on mine and have been pleased. Air delete pulley is available at gmpartsdirect.com or the dealer, and no you do not give the vin number. I sure all the people on this board that have not broken the super strict often talked about federal law have never exceeded the speed limit either.....

Re: Want to remove smog hoses and systems frome My RS. How to?
still passes emissions with factory air cleaner, heat riser, and cat on it.
does the a/c work? if so keep it. if not repair it. spray penetrating fluid on the steel tubes on the exhaust manifolds and then remove them. remove the smog pump and all hoses. remove the smog valve on the passenger valve cover and all hoses. now put 1/4 inch pipe plugs in the manifolds and call it a day. also search heater valve relocation.

removing all the stuff deffinately helps the engine bay and access for repairs. although not technically legal.

Re: Want to remove smog hoses and systems frome My RS. How to?
i got both delete pulleys. first off my air conditioning didn't work and second my smog pump was defective (my car idled a lot better afterwards). and with emissions it depends on the place cause i brought my car in they asked if it had a cat i told them yes, hour later it passed with a sheet that had "no" results other than my name an 91 camaro rs with a big green "PASSED". And rockyd anyway to take a close up on your rerouted heater coolant lines? Nice engine bays guys!

Re: Want to remove smog hoses and systems frome My RS. How to?
he just bypased the heater valve. capped off one side of the heater tube T. and connected the hoses to the other sides of the T. Well that's what I think he did anyway...

Re: Want to remove smog hoses and systems frome My RS. How to?
yea ill take a pic or i think i have one already but yes i capped the coolant steal tube down by the frame and i cut the coolant hose from the back of the intake manifold just enough and turned it around to the heater core and thats its. you have to cap the little vacuum line too i just cut it back by the firewall and then capped it there. works like a charm too. i can now replace my header gasket in 20 minutes on that side and change all sparkplugs from the top ooooooooo lol

I found my prob it was the distributor. The bolt was loose and the timing moved now runs like a champ. No air pump. No codes either
