Fuel pressure help

Ok, i realize there are other post about this, but how do I relieve the fuel pressure on my 305 TBI? There is no fuel pump relay in the fuse box, so like the other posts said, I removed my gas cap and let it sit for 15 minutes, I then proceeded to remove the gas lines, and guess what?... Gas started pouring out, I let it go for a couple of seconds thinking it was just some extra gas in the lines but it didn't stop, so what did I do wrong? Or what else can I do?

Re: Fuel pressure help

thier is a fuel pump relay located on the firewall on the drivers side. but undoing that alone will not stop the engine from running the fuel pump also runs off of the oil pressure switch. so unplugging that on top of the oil filter mounting location should be able to start up and kill the engine...or you can be like me and just wrap some rags around the lines where you want to undo them and let it loose. haha. good luck.

This is weird cuz I just sent you a PM about it haha but anyways, what does the relay look like? And also where is the oil filter mounting location at? I'm not so good with car, I've been learning from self experience lately though

Re: Fuel pressure help

oil filter is located on engine, on drivers side of vehicle. you have to locate it from under the car. the oil pressure switch is right above it. you may be able to see it from the top side.

Well the fuel pump relay is in a group of relays on the drivers firewall. which is the back of the engine compartment. if standing in front of the vehicle it'd be to your right on the right side of the brake master cylinder. the fuel pump relay is the one that is farthest out towards the front of the car. (i dont hvae any pics available at this time).

Re: Fuel pressure help

I know where the firewall is, I'm not that bad with cars haha but is it on or in a black box type thing on the fire wall? I just need a description of them

Re: Fuel pressure help

its black on top. its about 2x3 inches in size. it has a 4-5 wire connector to it. it actually might be bolted on right in front of the 7 pin black ESC module. That's all I really got for ya. But I was just thinking. Can't ya pull the fuel pump fuse and run the engine that way til it burns out of gas?

Re: Fuel pressure help

I could pull the fuse... If there was one, there's not a fuel pump fuse in the box and can't find any other spot with fuses

Re: Fuel pressure help

well it has to be on a fuse. but the fuse for it might be the same as the ignition or something. I dont really know that. I dont have all the answers!

Re: Fuel pressure help

But you have most of the answers! Haha well if do remove the gas cap like everyone says, how much gas should be coming out of the lines when I remove them? I was expecting some drippage but I got way more then that

Re: Fuel pressure help

well it should be steady at first but afterall the pressure releases just a few drops. I take rags and put them under the line and let the fuel drip into it. not really a big deal

Re: Fuel pressure help

nevermind, i took a chance assuming it was the driver side one, got my gauge installed and now showing 11.5 psi. as for the original topic i just cut the line on my tbi to put in my fuel pressure gauge and didnt have any problems with fuel pouring non stop

Re: Fuel pressure help

yeah it is the drivers side. if your keeping the fuel gauge under the hood. you must realize that it will only read accurate in the cold of morning after that the heat throws it off. A fluid filled one more than a standard one.

Re: Fuel pressure help

Any way to replace the nuts on the fuel lines? They are really rusted and threads are in bad shape

Re: Fuel pressure help

you can bend your own from brake line bought at your local oreilly's or autozone. you can go to the junkyard and buy some new ones. you tighten the nut first going into the injector pod. then you install the line and using a line wrench tighten that while holding the fitting going into the throttle body so you dont crack it.

Re: Fuel pressure help

Ok, well the thread housing on the unit is busted, I'm getting another whole tbi unit for $50 on sunday, it would be much easier if the fuel lines were at least a little bit flexible

that makes sense, its a standard one but i mainly just wanted some assurance my fuel pump was good after findind out yesterday that a quarter tank of gas really means out of gas lol
