Installing original air cleaner housing- help for 2 simple questions
Hi all,
I have a 1991 Firebird 305 TBI in which i am installing the original air cleaner housing. I am removing an open filter. 2 questions:
1- There is a hole in the bottom of the housing. is it suppose to be open for water escape? Is there a vacuum hose to connect to it?
2- There is a metallic hose from snorkel which suppose to connect with the exhaust manifold in the driver side. However, that part of the manifold is close. Is it suppose to be close?

That hole is for the Intake Air Temperature sensor that should be plugged in somewhere or your SES light would be on. It's held in with a little clip you may have to hit up a JY for. I have some spare sensors with clips if you can't find one or don't have it there somewhere. Unclear about what you are asking in the other question.. You need around 6-8 inches of tubing to bridge the gap

Re: Installing original air cleaner housing- help for 2 simple questions
I do have the temperature sensor (8 o'clock in the 1st pic) on the base of the housing. This hole is round, about a "dime" size(12 o'clock in 1st pics). The housing that i removed had a plug on it in a similar hole.
The 2nd question-The snorkel have about 6 inches of tubing, but where it connects to the manifold(at the engine)is closed (2nd pic). So if i put my finger thru it, i hit metal. The picture shows how i have it connected currently.
Thanks again!!
I have 2 pics attached.

No and intake air temp sensor goes in the 12 oclock hole. The other item at 8 oclock is different.
The metal hose that goes to the manifold is called a "stove pipe" and the hole is closed. All this does is direct hot air made by the stock manifolds and forces into the engine to help the engine reach operating temperature faster

This is the pic of the IAT (intake air temperature sensor) that needs to be installed in the 12 oclock hole
oh and if you want to buy a new one for aftermarket I have a NIEHOFF # of FE625 your part store should be able to cross that to a Borg warner or standard. I have two spares I could also send you but these are about 15 dollars new.

So maybe the previous owner eliminated the sensor??
how could i identify the hose that goes to the sensor? there is one small hose coming out from the front( next to the PCV valve hose) that has a small screw as a plug. Could that be it?
Thanks again!!

no hose goes to that sensor its a wire. If he eliminated this sensor then he had to modify the connector or something. Its a 2 wire connector. and it runs next to the egr there. should be there somewhere!
the hose you found goes to the front of the TBI unit on the drivers side lower correct? that is the hose that goes to the other item at 8oclock

no problems the egr stands for Exhaust gas recirculation is is a valve located on the intake manifold that helps reburn the exhaust gasses. It is located on the back of the intake manifold on the passenger side the wire harness should be there somewhere

Ok. The only wire i found in the area is the one in the picture below.
Is that the connector? IAT sensor?
Thanks in advance!

That's it, it goes up into the spot you already have the holder in.
