TBI throttle body advice

Just did a throttle body cleaning and used a rebuild gasket replacement...after wards started the car and check engine light stays on....car runs like rally strong, like it has alot of power without giving any gas... at park or neutral it will stay around 1100 rpm and fuxes a tad bit up and down...wondering if I got the TPS with the cleaner and ruined it?

Re: TBI throttle body advice

Sounds more like a vacuum leak to me. I have TBI in my 94 GMC Sierra and it did the same thing the first time I rebuilt the TBI. Check the IAC passages for carbon/gunk preventing a good seal. Make sure the IAC motor is working properly as well and opening/closing properly.

Re: TBI throttle body advice

When you put everything back together on the engine, did you verify the TPS setting? If you took it off the TB during the cleaning rebuild, it will need to be re-calibrated

The TPS on your car is a non adjustable sealed unit - dunking it into the carb cleaner will not hurt it.

You need to do couple of things.

1) Since you have SES on - pull codes by shorting pins A&B on ALDL connector. This way you will know which DTC ECM has flagged.

2) If you have removed and disassembled TB the IAC needs to be reset. There is a procedure how to do this in technical articles on this board.

3) High idle can be attributed to a vacuum leak or non functioning IAC stuck in fully open position.

Do these simple checks first and post your findings.

Re: TBI throttle body advice

Alright Its 100% cured, no more code...smoother idle than before I did the overhaul, happy car...happy owner... I took 82Crossfires advice on the TPS, insted of bringing it in for a re-cal. I bought one from advanced for around 30 bucks, the manager said its pre calibrated...poped that sucker in started the car and pure happiness. hope this helps someone in the future. Thanks everyone
