Engine dies on cold starts.

Why would my 305 die every time after I start it up in the morning or if it's been sitting for a while? No matter what it will always die and idles like crap, won't really stay running unless I keep the RPM's up too about 1500 for about five minutes. Any ideas?

Has your check engine light come on at all?

Nope no check engine light comes on, I did check my timing this morning and adjust it. It was way to far advanced. It was set almost past the third peak on my timing mark. As seen in pic, I adjusted it to 2-3* advanced to see if that helps.

When you adjusted the timing, did you unplug the brown wire?

Looks like someone just bumped the timing up several degrees. Most likely to help it run. To me it looks like the fuel pressure is low. Secondary would be the CTS.

Just don't throw parts at it. Check stuff then correct the issue.

How is the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs?

RBob.

Re: Engine dies on cold starts.

Adjusting the timing didn't help my original problem a whole lot. I still get the surging from about 1250 RPM down to almost dead. Hear a little rattle, then she idles back up. Guess I need to check fuel pressure now.

Re: Engine dies on cold starts.

I have already replaced the CTS. Does the same thing.
