Can a 350 ECM chip run on a 305? (88firebird)
Hello there I am recently rebuilding a 92' suburban block with 89 tbi heads bored .60 over with bigger exhaust and intake valves. Were putting a smog legal rv cam. I have the edelbrock performer tbi intake manifold with the stock throttle body. I have jeg shorty headers with 2 hi-flo cats. Before the rear main seal went out on my 305 and I decided to rebuild a 350 I was going to order a Jet power chip for the ECM on the 305. Now I'm just wondering if I were to be able to order a 88 firebird 5.7 tbi Jet power chip and install it on my 305 ECM? Thank you all for your help

Ok I have been so intrigued by this ECM tuning everyone has been talking about and I'd like to join the party. Do you think someone could explain the options and how they work? Also maybe sme price range? Thank you! Ops 1 more thing. I don't have a labtop so all the data logging programs are out the window

Well then your only option is to have someone burn some custom chips for you untill you finde it runs nice. Probably around 200$.

The only plug and play for TBI https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/post...711-post5.html it is a fantastic system.
I think Moates also offeres a similar set up for TPI, were you flash trough the ALDL plug. But not for TBI.
Though no laptop = no tuning.

You do not sit in the car days tuning, datalog 5-10 minutes, make adjustments, datalog 5-10 minutes, make adjustments, ... go home/work/live/... wenn you have time datalog 5-10, make adjustments ... over and over until everything works nice.
Its not only a program, its the whole ECM that is upraded to EBL. Check out the link.
If you set it up for VE learn you can have it learn as you playback the datalog file, thats quick, 2 things at once.
It takes less then 1 second to load the modified bin. then its time to drive and log.

If you do not have specific tools and great, tiny electrical pin's soldering skills, just get the whole ecm with EBL installed, its like 60$ extra, well spent. It will also be tested and loaded with a stock bin of your choice.
Then carefully unplug the stock ECM and replace with the upgraded one. If you did not get wild with cam and heads, it should run.
Before I would set fuelig # in the bin. according to your coustom injectors and fuel pressure.
Then drive and datalog, to see what is goin on.

Re: Can a 350 ECM chip run on a 305? (88firebird)
ok so iam going to be ordering one. but before i make the final decisions thomas i just want to go over a couple things again....
You do not need a labtop to run your car all day long. You only need it when editing bins and data logging.... (rite?)
When i order the Ebl flash and with the ECM and there self install (which is the 440 deal) Does that come with everything i need to run the new ecm, the labtop program and the cable or what ever it uses to flash it over? or do i need to buy other things also?
I am also jut curious on the VE learn and how it works.

Yes rite.
Yes, all you need is a laptop with the correct serial connector or adaptor.
VE learn is easy to set up.
scroll down to "VE Learn:" http://dynamicefi.com/Tune_Intro.php
scroll down to "The First Changes:" http://dynamicefi.com/Tune_Intro2.php
On a cd you get bins. and detailed description on how to set up VE learn and more.

Re: Can a 350 ECM chip run on a 305? (88firebird)
Almost every laptop made in the past 8-10 years will NOT have a serial port. Serial was phased out once USB became mainstream.
You can get serial to USB adapters off ebay for about $3-$10 shipped. How those crooks are managing to sell them for $30+$10 shipping is beyond me, but I guess a fool and his money are soon parted.

I'm gonna have to beg to differ, considering that I own several 'eBay Specials' and have never had a problem with them, even when feeding some beefy GPS data streams.(Way faster than ALDL data ever thinks about streaming).
But even if you want the same "Quality" as the $40 cable at that link, you can get a cable with the exact same FTDI chipset, for about $12+5 shipping. Still under half of what they're selling them for on that site.
There's profit margins, and then there's highway robbery. $40 for that cable is the latter.
A little shopping around can save you a great deal of money, that's all I'm trying to say. Sorry if I offended anybody who actually paid that price.
