L03 idle surging and black smoke
ok so i recently had to change my stock intake manifold because it was leaking coolant on the front passenger side corner.. when I did this i also did some ultimate tb mods (spacer and cut the ridges smooth). Before i did this the MAP had no vaccum going to it. I used the vaccum diagram thats linked on this site. but it didnt show the vaccum to the cruise control or to whatever it is that goes directly into the intake manifold. (sorry for the lack of terminology there lol). so i went by the chart.. my cars idle wasnt surging as bad, but still doing it. and running way too rich. so experimenting, i unplugged the vaccum to the map and it straightened up and ran great all the way to work. it idled great and no smoke. I got a new map sensor and it didnt change anything. it only starts rough with the vaccum hose unplugged then straightens out. My guess is that i have a vaccum problem but i dont know. I dont have any sort of diagnostics equipment to check codes.. and after searching until my eyes were about to explode i decided to just ask lol. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You should get a scanner.
It might tell you the problem.
If it’s not in your budget at the moment you can have it scanned for free at many parts stores.
