081s or swirl ports

081s or swirl ports
im in the middle of building a 350 tbi to go into my firebird and my question is which heads should i use on it. I have a set of 081s and i have the stock swirl ports that came off the 350. I plan on having machine work such as porting done to whichever head i use but which one would have the better potential for this motor? my goal is 300whp and ill be using a lunati 60101 cam if that comes into play at all.

Wow!! I can't believe this issue has skated for 11 days.
Usually any swirl-port head issue is like kicking over hornet nest.

Several things:
-- fill out the user data, you'd be surprised at how useful
it can be when answering questions.
-- spend some effort on grammar, & punctuation. The
old farts on this board that really know something,
are well... old school. If we can't understand you,
we're not likely interested in trying to help you.

Enough
In their base form, the swirl-port heads are perhaps the General's
worst design idea. There are desciples on the board, who get impressive
results, but it's more of a quest to prove it can be done, regardless of
the cost/effort involved.
Do some searching, but I think you'll find the 081s are a much better
starting point for a 350 build. (Some swirl-port castings have smaller
combustion chambers, which can produce excessive comp-ratios on
other block/piston config's.)
Good luck.

Re: 081s or swirl ports
Your 081's are 58cc chambers most likely and meant for a 305. They will raise your compression quite a bit. Its going to be pretty tough to get to 300rwhp with the heads you have. I would consider selling them and finding a better flowing set like a Vortec and an intake to match.

Re: 081s or swirl ports
after doin some research ive found that i can get a set of vortecs pretty cheap so i will be getting those and just using the swirls to get me through inspection being the vortec tbi intake wont allow egr and i dont feel like having to butcher a new pair of headers so i can get the egr to work, thanks for the help though
