Excessively high Idle help!
Car is taking forever to warm up. It has been cold here in florida for a few days. The heat takes 30min to get warm. The rpm's are staying at 2k + for about the same time. 2 days ago the rpms in 1-2nd gear were 3k rpm.! Getting divorced and have no money I shall check the plugs and report in.

3rdgenwillie: I have not seen a post from you in years (I think). Sorry to hear about the divorced stuff, that really sucks, I went thru that 10 years ago, its hard. I am in Mims Florida now. Concerning your car: I dont have a clue. I would say do a regular tune up and see where that goes and check for error codes. What about the thermostat? Check the plugs like you are going to. How is the coolant temp doing? Does it climb quickly atfer start-up? Sorry, I cant help you anymore, just throwing out questions.

Lucky it's cold. The temp was spiking alot, so I checked it and.....behold bone dry? Some leak or worse. About a quart low on oil also. Filled with water for quick fix, and topped off oil. Still need to pull plugs, feeling they are fouled out. This thing is sucking down gas.

Re: Excessively high Idle help!
For a 305 TBI... I also have a high idle speed, but not in the same manner as Willie. Mine, the idle "speeds" seem to have swapped. When the engine is cold, it idles as around 500rpm when it should be around 1200-1500 for a quick warm upm then when the engine starts to warm up the idle goes down to a final hot engine idle of 500rpm, but it idles around 1200-1500 when hot. THe only thing I've done is changed the air cleaner to an open element, thus removing the thermac (i guess it is also the IAT sensor) and the mass air flow sensor? the round disk like thing that's in the air cleaner neck near the end with a vacuum tube hooked to it, whatever the hell that is, is gone also with the vacuum line plugged at the tbi unit.
What could have failed or what has changed? Also if anybody can direct me as to what that disk like thing is at end of the air cleaner neck with the vacuum tube hooked up on the underside and where I can find a replacement. Thanks.
