dumb question and waste of space on TGO.
can you take an intake manifold from a 350 '91 caprice and use it on an '88 305 , do the egr ports differ? is evrything the same , i can also pull one from a late 80's gmc suburban "350" , would it work ? im going to the junk yard tomorrow so it would be cool if i could find this out today

You can't use the one off of a caprice because the distributor hole is larger than the one found on your car. I don't know exactly as to why but it is. Also, you won't find really any performance gain by switching to another stock manifold. I know Fast355 has played with some differant stockers, maybe he might chime in.

90 - to 94 B-Bodies had the overhanging cowl which prevent normal distributor removal for servicing. B-body cars used a larger diameter distributor through hole and intake manifold distributor flange was cast closer to the camshaft. This is a unique combination of parts only applicable to B-Body cars. A while back I published a side by side comparison of various ECM controllable distributors outlining these differences.
IFRC EGR circuit is similar, but I just do not remember details (or part numbers).

its not for performance , thanks by the way for the heads up on the different dizzy hole sizes , you saved me money , i just need a replacement for my stocker . why ? , you may ask , well , i have a leak where the intake manifold meets the head on the drivers side " its the runner for cyllinder #7 " it had corrosion and it was missing a good chunk and my smart *** went ahead and still put it back on after the rebuild , now my coolant is leaking into my combustion chamber out my manifold and correct me if im wrong , it could be messing up my o2 readings therefore creating a rich condition? oh and also my coolant gets burnt! anyways , what intake manifold can i use , what should i look for , im going to the junk yard tomorrow in the morning , what cars or trucks , i also found a late 80's gmc suburban " i think 88 " and its a 350 , could this work ?

If you have F-body I would stick with Camaro intake. I am going from memory, but there are minor differences - I know I have seen both truck and F-body TBI intakes many times, but never side by side. My local JY's (of Beach ) almost always have one or two F-bodies, most are V6, with occasional TBI. - Call ahead and ask them if they have one in the yard to save yourself a trip.
You can always get Eldelbrock 3704 as an upgrade over OEM cast iron.
Good luck tomorrow.

yeah, edlbrock does sound nice , but i just cant fork out $265 for a manifold right now . so pretty much f body intake manifolds are limited to f bodies and have no compatibillity with other cars? btw , i remember i saw an 88 caprice with the 305 and my guess for the bigger dizzy hole is because the HEI coil setup . what if i try to find one on ebay or something like that , what should i look for ? or does anyone have their stock intake manifold from when they upgraded to edelbrock?
oh hey btw ROBERTFRANK i was reading the dizzy article @ the bottom of the page on chevythunder.com , it says that the larger base diameter was used on SOME '92 and all of '93 caprices , whereas the small diameter was used from 87-92 , i wonder if i can get by since its a 91?

Since you have 20 year old cast iron intake rust is forever part of this beast. To remove rust scales use heavy duty wire style brushes to remove most of it and your favorite rust remover of choice. You really do not want to remove all of it and expose fresh metal to coolant, but just enough to allow unobstructed coolant flow. Afterward run 50/50 antifreeze mixture and you should be OK.
