unplugged connector...
edit: sorry guys, posted in wrong section, could it be moved to tbi? thanks.
hey guys, i'm jake. i have a 1991 camaro rs, i have had it for about a year, and it's spend a ton of time in the garage. it was carb'd and i had some issues with it, so we put a tbi back on. i think the distributor is wrong because the car is fast off the line, but falls on its face after 3k rpms and it won't start unless the timing is off. today i found this cable unplugged in the engine bay, i have no idea what it's for. it says "17 ped" on it.

Re: unplugged connector...
i do have a problem with the air temp intake sensor, it just dangles around in my engine bay because it won't stay in the intake. but this wire is different. the car is running really rich (you can smell it) could the air temp sensor not being in the intake be why?

Re: unplugged connector...
on my TBI 305 that connector is for my MAT sensor, (manifold air temperature sensor) without it the car will idle really rocky like, and run pig rich

Re: unplugged connector...
thanks! now, it's in a encased sleeve with a bunch of wires, and i can hardly pull it out, it will only come out a few inches, and there are no plug-ins around there. where does this thing plug into?

Re: unplugged connector...
The connector is for the EGR solenoid.
The pink/blk is ignition switched power, the gray is from the ECM.
Can see it in the lower left corner of Chevy8588's picture. Of which I am not sure why his IAT sensor is in an intake manifold runner.

Re: unplugged connector...
okay, i just printed the picture off, and went out to my car, there is no plug in for the IAT sensor. it's gone, there is nothing around the distributor.

Re: unplugged connector...
If the IAT isn't there the SES light should be on with code 23 set. On a TBI Camraro/Firebird the IAT is located in the aircleaner. Not really in it, but inserted into the housing from the outside.
Since it was carb'd there is a good possibility that the SES bulb was pulled.

Re: unplugged connector...
But yes, the wire you've shown is the EGR solenoid connector.
Which explains why there is no vacuum line connected to your EGR valve in your first picture, unless you removed it.
You can buy the EGR solenoid at a local auto parts stores if it's missing/deleted, as well as some vacuum line, the source for the vacuum on the solenoid comes from a port on the front of the TB.
Hope this helps, I'm guessing this stuff was removed by a previous owner? any more questions just ask.

Re: unplugged connector...
The stock IAT location is in your air cleaner dish, there is a little hole cut out for it in the stock cleaner.

Re: unplugged connector...
My 305 had an aftermarket edelbrock air cleaner on it, that could be why the snesor is there, but do know that is a MAT (manifold air temperature sensor) not an IAT there, either way it doesnt matter, hello TPI

Re: unplugged connector...
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're considered the same, someone correct me if I'm mistaken there.
It's technically the "Manifold Ambient temperature" sensor.
