chip tuning or upgraded heads

I have istalled after market headers, cam, intake, valve springs, and 1.5 roller tip rockes.
The car runs "decent" I would say but its not as fast as I expected.
I've been told to start chip burning but, I'm wondering
If I should swap out heads first. My friend gave me a hypertech thermomaster stage 2 chip of same year and motor. The chip didn't seem to do anything for the car that I could feel,
So heads or customized chip.

Time for fueling and tuning the beast. For the fueling you need a better fuel pump, stiffer FP spring and make your FPR adjustable. Best is to go with EBL flash for the tuning

http://dynamicefi.com/

After that you will be ready for heads and the EBL will help you tune it easy.

Can you provide cam and intake specifics??? As thomas1976 posted EBL is THE way to go for tuning. Swapping performance heads will provide the foundation for performance increase, but to fully realize it you will have to spend time dialing it in. EBL is great for that.

Re: chip tuning or upgraded heads

You could swap out the heads first, provided you intend to buy whatever equipment you settle on for chip tuning along with the heads. The TBI heads are probably a bit restrictive for that setup out top.

yeah!! that is exactly what i was thinking. now..... how critical would you guys think that it would be to upgrade fuel pump and regulator if i were to install heads? i plan to go with simple WORLD brand heads. i've always thought that the stock fuel pump and regulator should be enough for small mods.

Re: chip tuning or upgraded heads

imho you definately need to spend some time on tuning and fueling as said. get yourself an ebl flash, wideband, afpr and a tpi fuel pump. these are about 500-1000$ and actually, you'd already need these upgrades with your current mods.. of course even more so after doing heads.

For air intake, intake, tbi mods and full exhaust stock pump could be fine, with higher flowing injectors you may also get away with a mild cam.

The 75#/hr injectors with your stock FP should support 260hp, but I dont know if your fuel pump will be able to deliver anogh fuel at WOT. I have taken that hp # from the EBL excell calculator, from my experience (with my stock injectors) you will need that 260hp fuel to play with 220-240hp. Thats preatty close to were you should be playng right now.

If you can afford heads, tuning and fueling at the same time, I would still start with fueling and tuning then heads.

Wouldn't it be better to start tuning it with the right heads? The afpr should make up for a small part of tuning it maybe not on the dime but close don't you think?

Re: chip tuning or upgraded heads

Running higher FP without tune dosent run wery good.

I did understand you are courrently driving the car, thats why I suggested to drive around the 240hp of your set up, know whats going on and learn until you swap heads.

I also did not consider burning 50-100 chips to get it right, but tune it with EBL. Not like you are wasting anithing.
