Re: Newbie building 350 tbi...

I had no problem dropping the engine in with the headers on. Keep in mind that I cut the A.I.R. tubes off before I sent them to Jet-Hot for coating, so this probably added a little clearance. Also, I dropped in the engine only, not engine/tranny combo. It was a lot easier than I thought, I just had a friend help guide the engine in so I didn't ding up the headers.

The GMPP head gaskets seem fine. The directions that come with the e-tec heads recommend a few other gaskets as well. Check out this link and it will tell you everything you need to know: http://static.summitracing.com/globa.../edl-60979.pdf

If you have any other questions just let me know. I'll try and help the best I can. Good luck with the swap!

Re: Newbie building 350 tbi...

I finally got done procrastinating about replacing the fuel pump, and installed my new Walbro 255 a few weekends ago. I also have the EBL flash all hooked up and communicating with my lap top. I also finished up connecting the Hooker 2055's and y-pipe to my old Borla Cat-back exhaust system. Sounds pretty mean! I welded an O2 bung in the y-pipe for my LC-1 wideband. Next on my agenda is to wire in the LC-1 and get this thing tuned in. It shouldn't be too bad with the EBL and it's capability to do WB VE learns.

I do have a little issue I need to sort out. It seems that the Walbro 255 fuel pump is either overwhelming my regulator, or the stock return line is too small. I installed an Aeromotive 13301 regulator, and regardless of what spring I put in it, the lowest I can turn the fuel pressure down to is 15 PSI. With the stock pump, I was able to turn it down to 10 PSI if i wanted to. I set the regulator to 22 psi with the vacuum line removed, then when I plug in the vacuum line, the fuel pressure only drops to about 18 psi at an 1100 RPM idle. Shouldn't it drop a lot more than this? I need to get another fuel pressure gauge to confirm that mine is reading accurately. Currently I'm using a cheap Summit 0-30 liquid filled one.

I'm seriously thinking about getting an autometer fuel pressure transducer ( http://store.summitracing.com/partde...?part=ATM-2239 ) and wiring it to the EBL so I can monitor what's going on with the fuel pressure under all different engine loads. This would really help to dial in the BPC vs. VAC table on the EBL and help to identify any fuel delivery issues. Unfortunately Summit wants an arm and a leg for one.

Re: Newbie building 350 tbi...

My Aeromotive unit with the weak spring in dropped from 19 to 14 with vac attached. I believe it was posted in another thread that the 255 needs a larger return line. With the weak spring I believe I was able to drop FP under 15 so it must be your pump(mine TPI). As far as the gauge a liquid filled one(mine) is accurrate only on cold engine as underhood heat will distort readings. summit sells one that is spring loaded as well. cheaper and a better choice IMO. Or better yet get an electric one as you state and get readings on a pillar mount gauge. while you are at it get a DB32 for your Innovate WB and add that too. Yes adding that FP data to your logs will be helpful.

Re: Newbie building 350 tbi...

I was doing some research on fuel pressure sending units as well. I see that the autometer 0-100 is about 102, but I would think that you would lose some resolution.

Nordskog Street Series Digital Gauges have 0-30 psi elec gauges for 65. Under EBL preferences, you can choose Autometer 0-30, 0-100 or generic 0-30. I am not sure what the conversion is. Maybe RBob can shed some light on a cheaper sending unit.

Ronny,

What is the DB32. I see moates listing a DL-32 for logging, but that is $500. Why get that when the EBL can log FP?

DB32 is the digital A/F gauge. comes in blue or red. Displays 14.7 in large letters(2.00 inch unit) and slows down the reporting of A/F so more meaningfull. I think was $80. I think it is an alternative to LM1 when you order the LC1 permanent mount. Might even be packaged with Lc1 for price. For storage of data you need laptop to do for you if you go lc1. Lm1 stores datalogs in controller so laptop need not be with you that day. http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/x...me.php?cat=250

On the throttle bracket I used the adjustable Edelbrock unit. Worked well. Lokar sells one too.

Moates has the O-meter that describes exactly what you are referencing. Mine is currently in transit. It was $243 with the LC-1, but you can not dump it to a laptop. For 40 bucks more, I wish I got the DB32 which does ($289)

Re: Newbie building 350 tbi...

Hey Ronny, did you use the excel spreadsheet that came with the EBL to calculate your BPC vs. VAC table when using the VRFPR, or some other method?

Also, have you had any luck getting the IAC working on the 7.4L TBI unit? I purchased the proper connector and have tried a few different wiring configs, I'm still not sure that it's working properly though.

Yes I used that spreadsheet BPC-VRFPR.xls but I did not get it with EBL. Was supplied by another member. I suspect the same.

No I did not get the IAC to work but did not attempt to do so this season as of yet. I did however receive some suggestion not yet tried. last season the IAC was functional but noit the way it was designed! I am confident I will get it corrected.

Re: Newbie building 350 tbi...

How the tuning going. I am close to my 100th burn! It would be cool to compare some tables. I went back to tuning open loop and tonight have raised the rev limiter to 6500 and am tuning above 6k. It looks like I am really close to maxing the duty cycle with the 90 jecters and 20 psi. Most of the other ve tables die off around 5k. I had to raise mine up the entire graph and am now working my way down since I was starting to run lean. I am still pulling timing out. These etecs really don't need much timing.
