Stupid Question on aftermarket gadgets for TBI

I was recently surfing summit racing for fun and saw these wierd aluminum pieces they were calling tornado adapters that you put in the path of the air intake that supposedly make the air into a vortex going into the throttle body. I've heard half n half on reviews for those and thought I'd ask the experts on their opinions of them. I'm not sure I buy into the theory of them but hey sounds neat lol.

Any comments welcome

not worth the price. The problem lyes in the air cleaner itself. that's not going to help much.

I guess a pair of K&N filters would be alot better hehe.. What kind of problems are you referring to about the air cleaner assembly ?

the stock drop air cleaner assembly is very restrictive. it's not letting your engine breath in very well.

Tornados and all other similar type of restrictions in your air cleaner are JUNK. They are designed to take the money from your wallet and put it into their wallet.

They will hurt power AND fuel economy, despite their claims.

Re: Stupid Question on aftermarket gadgets for TBI

I am not doubtin they suck, but is there any proof they work or don't work? I have one in my 94' 3/4 ton Chevy, I just left it in there since it was there and I figured it can't hurt, but maybe it does...? If there is proof they hurt mpg or power, I'll pull it out and toss it...

I want my intake wide open, with no restrictions in it. Sticking a hunk of aluminum or plastic in the middle of it looks like a restriction to me.

Re: Stupid Question on aftermarket gadgets for TBI

you're swirl port heads tumble the air over itself enough, you dont need any more obstructions in there.

Yes when I was in tech school they proved on a dyno that the tornados decreased both power and economy. The results were published in one of the automotive magazines, unfortunately I can't remember which. It was in a green Ford F-150 4-door. Tornado was trying to work out a sponsorship deal with Hot Rod U at UTI, they declined after their findings.

Re: Stupid Question on aftermarket gadgets for TBI

i can see the idea of swirling the air as a good thing but they slow the air and the ones that go into air base on our cars just cause problems

Re: Stupid Question on aftermarket gadgets for TBI

I don't see a restriction with this thing, the stainless is so thin, I can't see it being restrictive. I may be totally wrong, but.....

I pulled it out and will drive without it for a month or so and see if the mileage changes any. I am betting I see no differance, the truck is a gutless turd anyways and gets pathetic gas mileage.. We shall see.
