Timing at the track
I have a question concerning ignition timing for the drag racers. Particularly those with a stock or mostly stock L03. I have been running 6 degrees advanced at the track and with 93 octane I don't get any pinging. I gained 3 10ths in the 8th the first time I tried it. That being said, has anyone expreimented with igintion timing on the L03 and what have you found? I may try to go up to 8 degrees, but I've heard around here that these heads don't care for a whole lot more timing than that anyway. What has everyone's best results been?
My setup is a stock long block with dual snorkel air cleaner, shorty headers and 3" catback w/ no cat. I'm also running 3.42 gears instead of the stock 2.73s. I have had my best results so far with 26 psi in my rear tires. I haven't gone lower than that yet. I'm running 215/65R15 Sumitomos, I regret going for the stock size now (I wasn't going to the track at the time) but they are more than adequatedaily driver tires. I also had a scrubbing problem with 235s in the front.

Re: Timing at the track
Seriously? Nobody goes to the track? Should this be in a different section? I posted it here as I am asking about TBI performance.

Re: Timing at the track
I found the best I ever did when I was close to stock, was 4* and cheap 87 octane.

Re: Timing at the track
The SA timing will also depend upon the track length. An 1/8 mile run can use more timing then a 1/4 mile run. There are several reasons for this. When on a 1/4 mile track it helps to reduce the timing as the vehicle exceeds 80 MPH or so (a ball-park figure). This can also be defined by which transmission gear the car is in.
