Smog Pumps and Open Air

Just for Curiosity, anyone who knows, i removed my smog pump, plugged the lines in the Exst. Manifolds, and added a K & N Open air filter and removed spacer ring from TBI. How much HP do you think I gained from this? and what is the stock factory HP rating for a 92 305 w/ tbi RS

Just take off the belt, remove the pulley and unbolt the pump off the front of the engine, you can re route the belt so you dont have to change it, remove the air lines and put in the plugs (just find plugs that are the same size as the air line fitting at a hardware store)

BTW, all the power you gained came from the K&N.

you gained maybe 1hp from teh smog pump if you are lucky, but you lost about 10lbs!!!!!
the air cleaner prolly gave you a nice 5-7hp across the power band.

Yeah, recently read an article that said the smog pump is only worth 1 HP on a stock or mildly modified motor, but it is heavy.

I dont recall the size of plugs, but the main reason i wanted to take off the smog pump was to get rid of the air lines to have access to all of the spark plugs and wires and crap, I even have room to install headers in there if i want.
by the way, do you have to remove the AC stuff to get a header on the passesger side

No need to remove the A/c for header installs. Might have to bend the tranny fluid lines a little to get the headers in place and make sure the lines don't rest on the headers!!!

Tell you what "Beat Fords", the Smog pump comes right off-2 bolts, and all the other AIR crap comes off easily too. You might as well slap on some headers since your turning the car into a non-smog legal ride anyway. But if not, just cut the steel AIR line from the CAT and weld it shut. Im from AZ so I dont have any smog regs where Im at. I took all that crap off too. Had to buy a longer belt to reroute it the right way, cant remember the # though(sorry). Made lots of room in the Bay though. As for the headers, I ended up unbolting the motor from the mounts and lifting it up about an inch or so. PITA. Good luck brother!!

1/4" tapered pipe thread plugs are what you need. I have a set of 8 for anyone who wants them, I'll take two dollars for shipping, and send them. I have headers now w/o the smog stuff on them.
