Results of 305 TB to 454 TB swap

I finally completed my swap from the stock 1 11/16 TB unit with cop injectors to the 454 TB unit with the SAME injectors.when I did my engine swap (check sig) I just upgraded the injectors and left the TB unit alone.
With the Small TB unit I lost power after 5,000 rpm, like a hitting a brick wall.I Bored out the edelbrock TBI manifold to 2" and bolted on the 454 unit. NOthing else was changed including the cop chip. I am now pulling to 6,500 rpm.
Given that the only change I made was the TB unit itself, I at least know it is good for another 1500 rpm on the top end with no other changes. The true test would have been to do a custom prom for the small TB set up and compare that to the large TB set up with a custom chip. I didn't have the money to do that, but It provides some evidence that the smaller TB unit is inadequate in the higher RPM ranges and for my motor combination the larger TB is the way to go. I am taking it in to Dave Johnson here in denver for a custom chip later this week so we shall see
how it turns out. Anyway, thought you guys would like to know my results. Snflu, Thanks for all of your help. No way I could do this without you..........bob

Sounds like your setup is similar to mine without the TB. Good to hear. I wonder if at least some of your problems above 5000 rpms are those heads (?). Say, what's the P/N for that chip? I think I just ordered one but I"m not sure. DO you have any times yet?

Jroy91rs, the cop chip has 86anlu K3911910047 on it and has a part number of 16144294. It is in the GM SEO catalogue for
1989 caprice cop car with a 350. I have also heard that part number 16125841 is the same chip but I don't know. Do a search cause there was another post about this chip with some numbers.
Tas, I didn't think you could bore the edelbrock TBI intake to 2" either. But I ran into a guy who had one and had seen others do it. There was a post on here a while back saying it couldn't be done, but I have one and it can. The machinist has to be right on though. Its a total bolt on deal, just bore it, and bolt it on. No other mods required like the carb version requires. But I can see the advantages to a single plane carb
intake for sure.
I will let you guys know how well this works when I get the car back next week with the new custom chip.............bob

I have a cutaway pic of one. It looks really thin. Like .1 or .2 inch. That's why I thought it wasn't doable.
