TBI Fuel Injection problem

Hey guys, I own a 92 Camaro with a L03 with 132k miles.

My car cranks and there is no fuel going to the injectors. When you turn the ignition on, I can hear the pump prime and then shut off. Then when I crank the car the injectors arent spraying. I connected a Test light and a Multimeter to the injector plugs and there isnt any power going to the injectors. I checked all the fuses and they're fine. I will be checking the Fuel Pressure during the week when I get a gauge.

My car is VATS equipt and theres an alarm system with Remote start hooked up and it looks like a **** job. (speaker wires were used) Would that be an issue? I will be tracing the wires.

Any ideas?

Oh and another thing. My starter doesnt seem to catch right. I shimmed it twice and it still has that grinding noise. How can I fix that?

Thanks!

Check your distributor module. The computer must see a signal from the distributor before it will pulse the injectors.

That was my problem. Before I read this thread, I took a look at my wiring diagram and noticed the pick up. I checked it and then saw that the clip where the plug goes into is broken. I plugged it in and it runs.

Now, after getting it runinng. I took the car off the jackstands, and now my starter wont catch for ****.

Its probably just an O-ring. You can either take your TBI apart and bring the o-ring(s) down to a hardware store and try to match em up or you can buy the TBI rebuild kit and just rebuild the whole thing. I dont think you can buy just the o-rings from an autoparts store.

How do I access the O-Rings? I got the top off with the Torx screws but I have no clue on how to get pass that.

Re: TBI Fuel Injection problem

the injectors come straight up. It is difficult but they do come out. The chilton's manual gives you a diagram for removal. I heard that cranking without starting could be because of the security key feature. Someone had said that they poured a little gasoline down the tbi throat and it ran, getting the injectors to start going. If you don't get any power to the injectors at all, you need to trace the wires; someone may have cut something critical during installation of the alarm. Good luck, hope that helps.

Re: TBI Fuel Injection problem

I have ruled out the VATS system. I got the injectors to fire. It was the pick up wire behind the Distributor that came off. I need to fix the leaking injector on the passenger side. It Leaks when the car is off.

There is no fix I know of for a leaky injector. It needs to be replaced.

Re: TBI Fuel Injection problem

With the TBI it may appear that the injector is leaking when infact it is just the o ring that seals the injector in the injector pod.

TBI injectors are very reliable, 99% of the time its that O ring. I know because its happened to me before.

Re: TBI Fuel Injection problem

Today I bought my Gasket set for the TBI. Turns out it came with all the O-Rings I needed and I am glad they did. When I pulled my Injectors out, the right side bottom O-Ring was SHOT. It was about to split in half. Replaced them, and put the injectors back in followed by the gaskets and some thread sealant for the screws. Didnt fire it up though as I got a puddle of gas in the engine. I'd rather let it dry out instead of backfiring.

Next on the agenda, check my Flywheel and replace my cracked Ignition Module.

Thanks for the Help Guys!

Re: TBI Fuel Injection problem

Changed the Flywheel today. Car starts better. Im running, really rich. I changed the injector O-rings so it stopped the leaks. Now, the injectors seem to be spitting fuel instead of a smooth cone shapped spray.

Check your fuel return line, it may have gotten bent/pinched.

Re: TBI Fuel Injection problem

Alright, my injectors were spraying fine, I just dindt get a good look at it. However, I have another problem Im not too sure of. I'd start the car let it run for a few minutes, then it shuts down. Any ideas?
