Using Crane 2030 Compucam w/ less than 9.5:1 compression

I just ordered this cam from Jegs and just found out today that Crane recommends using it with a compression ratio around 9.5:1...I have a 305 w/ Vortec heads, Vortec TBI manifold, and Corvette center dump manifolds. My compression ratio however is about 8.4:1-more than 1 point lower than recommended. How will this affect the cam? Will I simply see less power than with a higher ratio, or will the engine run like crap?

Thanks,

Matthew C. Hall

Less power is true. I would have the heads milled. You will be suprised with the gains.

How much did it cost to get your heads milled, brian? and how rough is your idle w/ the LT4 cam?

Matt, I also run the Corvette Stainless center dumps with Vortec heads. Seems to work quite well. I am on a XE250 Comp cam now with the LT4 Hot Cam to follow, hopefully, if I could just find the time.
