here is my problem i was changng my gasket on my exhaust manifold and lost a bolt so i used a substitute until i could get to the auto store well as torqued the bolt in it snapped and left some bolt in my head.. my question is can i get the bolt out or is this a machine shop job? and while i am at it should i just switch to headers? do any of you know how expensive this would cost in your area??? crap that sucks. is the bolt sticking out of the hole at least or is it broken down in the hole? if its sticking out, maybe you can use soem WD40 and vice grips. if you have a dremel you might be able to knotch it on top and make it like a screw using a screwdriver to get it out. don't make the notch too deep because you will weaken the sides the screw will be pushing against.

Sears sells a tool that you drill a hole into the bolt it expands into the hole and you twist it out. Take a look.

I dunno, $25-$50? they have to drill it out, retap it, and put a helicoil in. A helicoil is like a spring, it scews in the hole and becomes the new wall that your bolt scews onto.

Maybe you can get some 305 TPI heads quick, port and polish them, and put headers on them

My friends and I tried to extract a bolt from an aluminum intake manifold. The bolt was weak zinc and wouldn't come out, it just shread every time we tried to do something to it. like dude said up there ^ you can drill it out and try to extract it. good luck.

thats how i read it too.

calm down kevin.

pimp, i would say you could get an extractor kit. you are not the first person in the world that has done this. I mean i never have, well not on heads, i popped the heads off my throttle blades. so if you find a tap/extractor, look and see if there is a 1/64" one with the kit. (im fzucked, you are just delayed)

good luck

Dude, I've done this before! Auto Zone or any other local parts shop should have a tool which is basically a handle with a large reverse threaded screw attached to it. Drill a hole into the bolt, then screw the tool into the hole (remember to turn it to the left 'cause its a reverse thread) Soon the screw will grip the inside of the hole in the bolt and it will start turning. Good luck.

You guys are nuts, man. Those tools are a last resort, IMO.

Go to a GOOD welder and have them quick-tack a smaller bolt/rod to the broken piece. Then, when it cools, the piece can be backed right out. This works best if the threads are not stripped/bunged-up, obviously...

You can also use a GOOD epoxy yourself if the broker area can be cleaned VERY well and epoxied to something. Just don't get opoxy on the threads, man...

If you have an oxy-acetaline torn just cut it off. Like not through it but I think some of you guys might remember having to cut out the bolt. Just heat up the head, once it gets cherry then blast it! Sorry I get way too worked up over playing with torches.

If you are going to use a bolt extracter your self just make sure you dont twist it off in the hole also, they are as hard as a drill bit and hard to remove when broken.I have a set of left handed drills that I use at work to remove broken bolts.Usually the drill catches and backs the bolt out for me.I allways drill a small pilot hole first(like 1/8").allso make sure if you drill any hole in the bolt that you center punch the bolt first so you dont go off center and into the head.Good luck.

took the manifold backoff couldnt see the bolt thought about it and realized why dont i just give this one to the shop... i wussed out i wanted to show off my gun to my friend so we went shooting instead. the shop had my car done in 2 hrs. it cost me 101.95 to have the bolt taken out manifold gaskets changed and everything since i popped the gasket again... that is cheap compared to what some places wanted so i am still kind of happy more because my rifle is better then my friends...
thanks
