My ultimate TBI idea

305 vortec heads, this edelbrock victor Jr 2 barrel intake, good cam, 454 TBI, LT4 or other good cam.

The 305 vortec truck was rated at 230HP so this should be way over that. what you think? I already did the 14x3 K&N flat based open element with open Formula hood.

can you use a 2-barrel intake with TBI? i didn't think you could.

I'm not 100% sure yet. I went to PAW and really liked the idea of it. Its a great looking intake. The vortec ports are nice and tall. They remined me of 340 Mopar ports. Next time I'm gonna see how well TBI gaskets fit ont he top.

Looks like that manifold would work!!! You should measure the 2bbl opening to make sure that the 2" bore TBI will be about the same size. You may have to 'hog' out the manifold to be 2"??? Looks pretty big in the picture, though. May be 2" exactly, now!!! You will (probably) have to make your own TBI adapter plate to center the TBI blades over that 2bbl hole but that setup should work REALLY well... IMO, anyway.

In fact, I may do the same thing with the 2V Victor Edelbrock for older-type heads because it's such a good idea. The only thing I don't like about it is that if you wanna go back to 4bbl carb, can't do it. But I like it, man!!!

yes that pic if for vortec heads. I just went back to PAW. it looks like the 2 barrel intake is not wide enough for the TBI. BUT there is sufficient material to have the bore widened near the top with a gradual taper.

looks like you have some good ideas but why
go with the 305 heads? When you can go 350 heads with larger valves, better flowing more power.....

why go with a 305 period? no sense in limiting your cubes, if it is a 305 that hauls *** no one will believe you anyways

btw i can tell simply by the bolt pattern of the carb flange, that manifold is nowhere near as wide as it needs to be
and why do you wnat to use a two barrel manifold? any particular reason?

I was thinking that it would keep velocity up and keep the fuel from falling out of the incoming air and puddeling.

well, i dont think so but maybe theres something im missing

heres the way i see it
the whole point of that manifold is to keep the velocity DOWN
because, on a motor which would use a manifold like that, the velocity through a two barrel carb is INCREDIBLE, for instance, Nascars pull something like 16 inches of vacuum at WOT and im pretty sure they use a four barrel carb and an intake like that

reason why its so tall is 1st to increase plenum volume, and second, to keep the fuel from SLAMMING into the floor of the plenum which is likely to happen with a two barrel carb having fuel drawn out at ludicrous speeds and air moving through it in the same manner (air makes turns better than fuel)

IMHO, its not a bad idea but its basically the same thing a well designed adapter would do on a regular 4 barrel intake. Not that this fuel puddling thing is a huge problem with tbi.. its obviously no where near as bad as carb
