Megasquirt TBI 305

I have a 1984 K5 Blazer with the 305 and qjet. I have a wrecked 89 chevy k1500 pickup, so I have a wiring harness, throttle body, etc. The thing is, I want to run megasquirt on it for for the ease of tuning. The 305 has electronic spark control.

Can I just run a Megasquirt I, or do I have to go to a MSII for the IAC and whatnot? How do I control the electronic spark control?

Basically, I want the economy and reliability of tbi as the blazer is my winter daily driver. I also want to put autostart on it.

Thanks,

Brendan

Well, this is not the forum to be asking about that. MegaSquirt has it's own forum, not to mention an FAQ that will answer most of your questions.

To run the IAC in an 'out-of-the-box' fashion, you will desire the MSII. You might be able to get away with it with just a V3.0 PCB and a MSI processor.

Your spark can be easily controlled with your current distributor, however I think the TBI dizzys are smaller for a reason, just not sure if the big one will fit with the TBI unit. The MSII has built-in direct control of your spark through your ignition module. MSI has some seperate firmware called MegaSquirt 'n Spark, or MSnS. This route would require you to customize more stuff, which adds to the complexity.

I use the above term loosely, out-of-the-box, because the MegaSquirt direction of fuel and spark control is anything but. It's a method of learning how a fuel injection computer works. I'm assembling mine now, and it is no 'weekend project'.
Autostart...I think you should start looking over at the proper forums.

I don't mean to burst your bubble or sound mean, but your gonna need to spend a lot of time reading and researching to get your vehicle to run properly.

I would consider looking into the EBL setup.

Part of the reliability of TBI is being able to go to any parts store and getting an ECM for it anywhere in the US. You'll also never get the drivability of a stock ECM from megasquirt.

To me megasquirt would be harder to learn FI on than a stock TBI setup. If you after the on the fly tuning abilities you can get the same thing with an autoprom.
