What causes idle to move up and down?
My car, I have fixed many problems but still, it idles between 520-620 and it just goes back and forth. This is only when its warmed up. So I am really not sure what would cause that.
I replaced all the sensors, but do have a bosch O2. I replaced all the sensors cleaned them and reset them. However, my car idles much better if I open the butterflies a bit more than stock. What would that mean? More fuel or more air??
I did flush the tranny and it improved my car immensly. I had a lower level due to adding tranny cooler and making the cooling line a bit longer. .
So, now I am just trying to tie the ends together.

Check the throttle body shaft there may be too much play in it, you may have a vacume leak. Open the hood at nite disconnect the light under the hood and look for a bad ignition wire. The darkness will show it jumping to ground. It could be a lot of things so do all the basics first, good luck

I am leaning toward the tbi shaft. Since I had the whole ignition system checked out proffesionally and in dark by myslef (sounds kinky ) I will try to ****** a throttle body from the junkyard and see how it works.
I know this sounds like ignition, but I had it check and re checked and than cheked yet again.
Now, I am running Crane ignition box, and sometimes at lower RPM my car would stutter. Only to get fixed if I give it a bit of gas. So, I might look into a fuel preassure regulator, adjustable one!.
Laters.

Don't just start adding parts to your car in hopes that one of them may fix the problem. Find the problem and correct it. There is a good chance that the junk yard TBI unit will have a problem with it. That will only confuse you more. What you are experiencing is a surge. It could be timing and or vacuum related. Check the base timing (with EST unplugged), check the IAC and refer to Dimented24x7's adjustment steps found towards the bottom of the "new to TBI sticky". Check all vacuum lines that run to and from the TBI unit. Look closely at the TBI gasket. This is a common place where vacuum leaks start. Leave the fuel pressure alone. If your car ran fine before ,without you touching it, than it likely that it is not the problem.

I agree, but I already threw all the parts at it. The surge is caused by vacum or ignition. I checked the vacum lines and after unplugging them one at the time, the idle raised with each that was unplugged. I re-set the IAC and rebuilt the TBI with new injectors and regulator. New gasket and I am sure its not the problem.
All I can think of is the intake gasket! Hmmm.. Maybe its time to change the intake gasket....
