Replacing Intake

Well i was thinking of replacing my intake manifold for this Edelbrock Performer Intake.

The site says that it will fit a 305/350 TBI firebird and camaro from 1987 to 1992 and well i have a 1988 therefore theoretically it should fit right?

I just want some input before I order this bad boy up.

Yes it will fit. You can also get carb intakes with a TBI adapater.

Ok I wanna do this too, if I mark where the distributor goes and drop it back in exactly in the same spot it came from on the new intake, will me timing be close to where it was?

your profile says that you have TPI heads. As long as they are 081 heads, it will fit fine, 416's will take some modification. Just a heads up.

Yes, your timing will be right on if you make sure it goes in right where it was, as long as you DON'T turn the engine over at all. If the position of the engine changes, that doesn't work, otherwise you're good to go.

It can be done but with only the most precise installation as Bron mentioned. This is really hard to do without at least getting your timing off a degree or two so don't even count on this method if this is your first distributor install. It is best to check the timing and re-set the base everytime you pull the distributor. It is only a few seconds of extra work just to be sure.

Check the "LT1 cam digest" for complete intake manifold installtion procedures and read the intake selection posts in the "new to TBI" sticky.

Yeah, I agree with Shifty, its absolutely best to check your timing and make sure it's set right, but it will at least be close so that you don't have to worry about turning the engine to TDC to drop in the distributor.

Personally, i prefer other manifolds to the Performer TBI but many like that manifold too. If you're looking for a direct bolt-in I suppose that would be your best bet. Good luck with it, its an easy swap.

Probably not much, your stock one should also be aluminum.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the Performer TBI manifold the same as the stock one? Same height, runner size, bore size, and plenum?

RBob.

Not really. Although some parts resemble the stock intake the plenum size is much larger. I don't have the exact numerical differences in runner size but the intake is based off of their carb performer intake. It is not the best intake but it is better than stock and a good replacement for those who need a direct bolt on application.

Got'cha, so it is a step up from a stock GM TBI intake. Not a lot, but some. It would then be a good choice for a stock'ish or mildly built motor that someone needed an intake for.

Didn't Fast355 use that intake to make 275rwhp in his 312 TBI? That's a pretty good endorsement if so.
